Hi. New to shotguns, and I stopped by Big5 on the way home to pick up some shells. I got a box of 25 Remingtons for $4.49. Good price?

Also; box says

12 ga. (I *THINK* I have that one figured out! ;) )
2 3/4 length (Know this one too)
3 1/4 Dr. Eq. : What is this?
1 oz. shot. What exactly does this mean? 1 oz. of lead shot in each shell?

8 Shot. Does this mean #8?

Also; will this work in my .40 cal beretta??? (J/K! :p )

Ya had me going until I saw the emoticon, Doc (G)...

3 1/4 dram equivalent is a way of saying that it packs a charge of smokeless powder that's equal to that much black powder. It's an obsolete method of indicating speed.

Yup, #8 shot and an oz of it.

Not a bad nor great deal. I suggest buying a case or more at a time of the good stuff, and either hold onto your empties for when you start reloading, or trade/sell them.

Remington STS shells are as good as they get. Hulls last a long time too. Last I bought were $52/case last year.

For comparisons' sake, a box of Trap quality reloads costs me about $2.80 and 12 minutes of my time.

No plug... just hard shopping results...

My rule of thumb is to always use www.cheaperthandirt.com as a pricepoint for comparison. Add their easily understood shipping cost in and see how it compares. For my 12 ga ammo, they are almost always the best price or very close. The ammo I normally buy because it works/patterns well in my Mossy 500 is:

Estate S.W.A.T OO Buck (i.e., a reduced recoil big buckshot)
Remington Reduced Recoil Rifled Slugs 2-3/4" 1 oz.
PMC Target Load #7.5 Bird (just for close targets)
Federal Personal Defense 12 ga (good for condo defense)

Another very cheap online source for SG ammo is Miwall, but they were too hard to do business with in terms of requiring faxes of drivers license, credit card, etc.

BTW: Just read your posts on the other/handgun forums... you seem to be everywhere these days.;)
 
Hey Doc, Shotguns are addictive--but your finding that out.
Dave set you straight on box markings. I'm a AA shotshell fan myself, Winchester, skeet loads and save the hulls, get a Mec 600 and roll your own.

If n you got a skeet/trap/clay club - hang out, shoot, Heck I"ve given away bunches of hulls to the new guys to get them started back when... someday you can do the same to a newbie.

Don't compete anymore--but still have fun and bust 'em. My favorite is 2 3/4 dr, 1 1/18 oz skeet load of 8's. Does a number on doves too. When you reload buy the hardest shot (more antimony) less deformity of pellets and better patterns. Pattern your gun (gun club can help) and most of all be safe and have FUN
