Yeah about a year and a half ago I noticed that prices were really starting to rise. That was because the basic cost of all metals was going up, up, up. And I heard that there were some new taxes imposed about the same time. But last fall, the cost of metals plummetted at the same rate as the price of oil, the stock market collapsed, everything went down in price. But that was about the same time that gun people started getting paranoid, so they started panic buying and hoarding. So, instead of ammo falling at the same rate as metals falling, it really started climbing and it hasn't really come back down yet. Any self-respecting politician sees the potential there to tax the beejeezus out of ammo now. They have seen that no matter how high the price goes, some people will pay it. I predict that in the next few years, the taxes on ammo will keep going up so that the net price to us will stay about the same.
Reloading definitely saves money per round compared to factory ammo, but the price of reloading components is still high and availability is limited.
