Is this a great country, or what?!

My first trip to Cabela's in Buda, TX.

Grabbed a snack and a box of match ammo.

Checked both out at the same register!

SACRILEGE!!!!
Water with pizza? ***? Everbody knows the only proper drink with pizza is beer. Well, OK, if you stretch a point, tea or maybe even pop, but water?
;)

Yes it is a great country for many reasons, and having stores where one can purchase food and ammo at the same time is definitely on the list of Good Things About America.

Hope the ammo was on sale. Cabela's is a fun place to visit. You can do much better on new guns elsewhere - the Saxet shows or on line.

I only buy from them, if they have a sale and I have coupons, gift cards.

Otherwise, their new guns are pricey as are the used ones.

Also, some of the print ads are bait and switch. Call to make sure they have the gun before going there.

Sorry to be sour - it is fun to go though.

Don't worry....I wasn't in the Cabela's ether.;)

500 rnds of Wolf match even with sales tax was about the same price as ordering online.

Haha. Their gun clerks can be a hoot. They had a SW Model 63 labeled as a 632 - a 327 gun. I told the clerk who said it is a 632 because the gun said 63-2 which is a designation for one of the 22 models. An older clerk told me that corporate prints them. Duh.

Once I wanted a pair of padded shooting gloves. Clerk swears that they don't have them. I go wander past a display of such.

The best is when, told this before, a guy wants a pump shotgun. Why - because he just wants to rack it and scare the bad guys. Great idea sez the clerk. Then the guy wants some blank 12 gauge in case the racking doesn't work to scare them. OH, the clerk sez - better get some rubber 00. Haha!

I also had some of their cargo pants which fell apart and they refused to replace them.

So I'm more a Bass Pro guy now - closer anyway.

Congrats on your slice of pizza!

Both times I have been in a Cabela's store I have wound up arguing with the clerks at the gun counter because I overheard them flat out B.S.ing customers. I am not sure if they have a "if you don't know just make something up" policy or if they have a company contest to see who can feed the biggest line to a customer.

I stop at Cabelas if I go to Austin for fun.

I go Whole Foods flagship, Book People, Nagels and Central Market - up Lamar. Also, there is a neat sci-fi store near Central Market.

Then some funky Austin restaurant (last time - South Congress Cafe) and then to Cabelas. Sometimes I will stop at Reds Range or Antonelli's Cheese Shop.

I can hit all my hobbies at one day's diversion. I alternate between guns, gourmet and geek.

I always like to check out the animals and aquarium. Also they used to have good cinnamon pecans.

I find that most salespeople anywhere don't really know the products they sell, be it guns, ammo, cars, chemicals, or whatever. You have to do your own research as much as possible.

I do enjoy my trips to Cabelas. I don't hit Buda very often. It is more often Ft. Worth.

I don't buy guns at cabelas or bass pro. I do enjoy looking at stuff and buying ammo at them. I just don't have a big selection back in west texas

Just bought a Eotech from Basspro for about the same price as online without the wait for shipping. Although I have bought a couple pistols from them they are a bit overpriced and gave me a runaround on ordering a G35.

I've had their assorted sausages but never deer sausage topping on pizza. Yummy!

More food and ammo purchases!!!

Glenn, Cabelas normally has the best prices I can find outside of Walmart (where I haven't bought many guns) and a local dealer who offers 10% over distributor price on any gun I want (but often can't get the gun from his distributor).

Just got a Ruger 10/22 takedown from Cabelas, suggested retail is $389, Cabelas has it for $349, and the clerk who checked me out asked "haven't you bought guns here before?" And after a nice discussion she got me 10% off and it ended up costing me $314 before tax. Not bad.

Only have had one other time a Cabelas employee gave me a discount over sale price; when I had to wait up front for a manager to come and verify that a bargain barn scope was really from the bargain barn. Ended up with a $109 retail rimfire scope for $23.

Cabelas and Bass Pro - the ones near me are more expensive on guns than the gun shows that come once a month to San Antonio. Academy Sports is better on gun prices. WalMart and Academy are better on day to day non exotic practice ammo.

Gun shows aren't that good on ammo. Like I said, Cabela's look for sales, discount points, etc.

I've bought two Cabela's guns that way. I'm sitting on some gift cards waiting for something special.
