Ammo in the flood

Unfortunately, I was hit in the recent floods in Colorado and am in the process of cleaning up all the mud and crud. I had a bunch of ammo in the basement that was submerged... rifle, handgun and shotgun rounds. I can shake the powder in the rounds that have some room. Is it okay to keep it??? What about the 12ga. stuff? I got it all out and dried, but it was wet for close to two days. What do you think???

I was flooded out in Sept. 2004 I kept ammo in plastic ammo boxes, the lacquer ammo survived the plain factory ammo only about 40% was usable and the shotgun shells that were in waterproof cases made it the rest was toast. sorry for the gloom and doom but that was my experience with flooding

Sorry to hear you were flooded. If it was mine I would use it for practice, just being prepared for misfires. If you get a misfire make sure it was not a squib load, barrel restriction, before firing the next round.

isnt it strange that premium ammunition made these is whacked after a few days in water, but ammunition and munitions made in england in 1916, thats been sunk in a dugout since the battle of flanders is well usable?

Thanks for the replies... birdshot read my mind, I figured I would keep the hard cased rounds for target stuff... No boom, no big deal... and throw out the shotgun stuff. My personal defense ammo is in a safe place. And I'll reload some hunting rounds... Well after I replace my press. Yes, that was ruined as well.
Thanks for the input. I guess I'll start looking for more .223 and 9mm... Ugh!!!
