Ammo in a plastic box

Well , since logging into this great site, I have obtained some great info from you gents \ ladies.
I have been picking up ammo for my various pistols & rifles.
Yesterday I was at the dollar store & picked up a nice plastic container to keep my ammo in one safe hidden place.
I know there are more better ammo storage containers, but my money is needed for other important things too like my family, bills, & other hobbies cars, bikes, trucks ;)
For now my question is , will the plastic container due for now ?
Is it a good idea , or should I just store my additional ammo in the closet or so ?
Thanks.

I store alot of extra ammo that won't fit in the bottom of my safe in a plastic box. As long as it's not subjected to a lot of humidity (unheated garage or basement), you should be o.k.

Okay, great.
It is stored in our house inside, so I didn't think climate would be too much a problem for now.
Happy New Year !:)

I actually just found some .357 ammo that my Dad had stored in his basement since his return from Vietnam and it shot fine.

I have begun using plastic ammo storage boxes by MTM I found at Academy Sports for 6.99. They have a rubber seal, are lockable, have a comfortable folding handle, and stack very well. Great stuff.

Speaking of MTM and such...

Does anyone know where I can find a plastic box to hold .327 rounds? I like to use these for keeping some spare ammo handy, but haven't found one to hold my new .327 rounds. I'd like one that holds anywhere from 12-50 rounds.

Thanks!

I have as yet to see a .327 round in the flesh, so to speak, but are they significantly longer than .357 Mag rds? If not, then any box for .357 would work.

Edit: I just looked up specs for the .327 and it is, indeed, shorter than a .357, so any MTM box suitable for .357 Magnum will work for .327.

My concern was with the diameter of the rounds being smaller, causing much rattle in the case. I suppose its not significant, and I can't believe I haven't tried putting my .327 rounds in my .357 case to test it out. *facepalm*

I've seen several guys at the range using the new style 'plastic coffee cans' for bulk ammo.
Seems to work well...............FWIW.
