Ammo for Sixgun?

Spectre

Staff Alumnus
I purchased a Single-Six w/ 6" bl yesterday (I had just sold one of my SKS's, and had to buy another gun; it's a rule). Mine is a .22/.22 Mag.

I've been wanting one of these for a few months. I was wondering what .22 and .22M ammunition the group has found their sixguns to like.

Where do we go now?

I prefer CCI standard velocity to even the more expensive .22, it is clean and accurate enough for me to shoot bullseye with. I've never bought/shot .22 mag.

I normally feed it the same ammo I use for my 10/22T (pretty much anything except Aguila) and 10/22M (currently CCI Maxi Mag).

Uh-oh. I bought some of the Aguila 60-grain on a lark.

Gunslinger, you use the Maxi +V, or the Maxi Mag?

Anyone use .22/.22 Mag on critters, or just paper?

I've gone rabbit hunting with my Single Six (5 1/2" barrel). 22lr works well for cottontails but I'd use 22 WMR for jackrabbits, though I have cleanly taken jacks with 22lr, when I knew I had the shot placement. I always use CCI Maxi Mags in WMR, usually JHP. Real fun to shoot.

I'm partial to Winchester Super X. I've never had a .22 that didn't like it.

TFL's official "Curmudgeon Member" and damned proud of it!

And once again, I have to agree with the TFL CE (Curmudgeon Emeritus). Win Super X is more accurate than most standard brand ammo, never fails to fire (unlike a lot of Rem. I've used) and you can occasionally find it at a bargain price at gun shows.
