Just picked one of these guns and I'am looking for ammo suggestions for it. I was thinking of using 125gr. corbons in it the 125's i use from them in my j-frame .38 640 seem to be decent in recoil and have what seems like low muzzle flash

But if the .357's from corbon dont have low muzzle flash please recommend a load that does. Also I assume that 357 magnum hollowpoints don't suffer from the lack of expansion that the .38's seem to.

That being said would i be better off using regular jhp in my 357 or using some type of jsp load? I want as little chance as possible of over penetraion as this will be a self defense gun.

Please let me hear from you guys here and let me know what you use for a self defense round in your 357 wheelguns and why?

Cor-bon makes a 110gr and a 125gr 357mag,the 110gr should give you less recoil and it's fast,1500fps from a 4" barrel compared to 1295fps 110gr 357's from winchester and remington. All of cor-bons defense loads have the lowest amount of flash i've seen.If you want medium velocity load the remington golden sabre's would not be a bad choice at 1225fps from a 4" barrel with low muzzle flash, all fps figures are from the makers, your velocity may vary.

A post from Glock17luver ( G-17my favorite auto) about ammo for model 19's (maybe my favorite revolver)

For a full power load I like the 357 Winchester Silvertip. 145 grains at 1300 FPS is nothing to sneeze at shock wise and still gives good penetration. The .357 Federal 125 grain load is often noted as THE "One shot stop" round, but I want pentration deeper than it will likely deliver in case I have to shoot from a weird angle or the round goes through an arm first etc. in a self defense situtation.

Honestly though what my 4" 19 is loaded with as we speak is 38 Special +p+ 147 Grain Hydra-Shocks. I figure it has plenty of power, low recoil (compared to full out 357's), low flash, a good shape and enough weight that even if expansion doesn't happen it's still as good as a very warm semiwadcutter and it's much quiter in case I have to fire in a closed area such as a small room or car. Having bought a few hundred rounds of it from Kielsers for like $12 a box and finding it to be the single most accurate load out of my personal 19 didn't hurt my decision as well.

Just what I and my gun like YMMV

I have used the Cor-Bon 125 .357 defensive loads in low light drills and likeem.. Minimal loss of night vision for follow up shots and rather mild recoil.

Proload (http://www.proload.com) makes both a full-power loading (125-grain GDHP @ 1500 fps from a six-inch barrel) and a "Tactical Lite" load (125-grain GDHP @ 1125 fps from a four-inch barrel). Proload makes good ammunition. The K-frame Smiths, like your 66, have historically had major durability problems with the extensive use of the hot 125-grain .357 Magnum loads.
