ammo for performance center (S&W) model 41

I am buying a perfomance center model 41 manufactured in 2016. Is there somebody who could advise me which 22lr ammo feeds best? How about Federal or Remington 40 grain? I noticed that most 22 rounds are high power. Should I install a different recoil spring?
Any help you can give me is highly appreciated. Regards peter

Each individual gun has it's own preference for feeding , accuracy, etc. For target shooting use standard velocity, 40 grain should be more accurate and gun life will be better. Enjoy it !! :D

I use CCI SV exclusively in my M41/46's. I suspect the ammo would work in your late model 41. Fwiw, my 3 S/W's are 1960 builds. SV is more accurate than HV.

Probably avoid the hot stuff and the cheapest stuff, and somewhere in there will be something it likes, but each gun seems to choose for itself.

Friend has an older 41, last outing, it "reliably" misfired using CCI Blazer, those same rounds ran through my old Ruger Mk I like a sewing machine...

It's a match gun, needs to be fed what it wants, even if that's more expensive.

Go with a standard velocity, 40 gr load, try several, and see what the gun likes best.

I have a couple of the Performance Center S&W Models 41. The only ammo that I've had difficulty with is Aquila Super Extra Standard Velocity 40 gr lead bullet. It doesn't always recycle the slide. That's the only standard velocity ammo I've used in them. Because of ammo shortages, at times, I've run just about everything thru those guns.

That Aquila standard velocity ammo is accurate. Using a 45 year old bolt action single shot Anschutz, I shot a five round string with a diameter of just over 1/4", less than 3/8".

There's your answer.

Enjoy

If it isn't broke, there is noting to fix. Go with the previous recommendations. You will have to put in some range-time to narrow down what works best, for you !!!

By the way, One fact that is true, is that you are going to love shooting your 41. They are fantastic shooters. ........ :D

Be Safe !!!

Standard velocity only! ~1070 to 1080 FPS. CCI standard velocity, RWS target, Eley target or club. Along those lines. Buy a box of each, find the one it likes, then buy a case.

Why the recommendations for standard velocity ammo? Did I miss something in the operators manual?

I've been shooting everything in my first PC S&W Model 41, mostly high velocity, for more than two years. Without issues. My newest one, a couple of months old, didn't like Aquila Standard Velocity lead bullet. The slide/bolt wouldn't always cycle. Ran 70 rounds of Aquila High Velocity copper coated thru it a couple of hours ago without any problems.

Ran a box of the Aquila Standard Velocity thru my S&W Model 422 (4" barrel) at the same time without issue.

Why SV? More accurrate than HV in ALL my 22 target pistols. Personally, I'd use HV for hunting -- why waste the good stuff.

I've owned a Smith 41 since the late '70's when I shot it in 50' bullseye competition as well as over the course, 3 gun NRA bullseye. It's a fine gun and will shoot most any ammunition with superb accuracy. Were I you, I'd buy an assortment of 50 round boxes of target and standard grade ammunition to try. But you'll need to be a truly superb marksman to wring out the differences. The gun's just that good. Rod
