Ammo for AR-15

A buddy of mine wants to go in on a case or two of ammo so that we can start up a stock for plinking and range time for our ARs. He says that all he uses is Wolf ammo and that we can get the case for about $150. I have used the russian (blue and red boxes) and some remington ammo before. Is wolf good ammo for blasting if not what others are out there for bulk purchasing. I dont necassarily need match accuracy but i would like to have a decent showing on the target.

I would NOT put wolf Ammo in my AR!!!! For a few extra$$$ Buy Sellier&Bellot! Brass case, Boxer primer GGGOOOODDDD Stuff!!!The Czech make GREAT ammo!! Jeff

Don't know much about Wolf, but I have to concur with those that are recommending Seller and Bellot. I shot several manufacturers before I stumbled on this stuff, and am glad I did. My scores jumped dramatically, mis feeds dropped to 0, and the brass is in excellent condition for reloading. Best part is, it is inexpensive and available from several sources.

I used Wolf in my Mini 14. Nothing wrong with it especially if you don't reload.

I haven't tried Wolf ammo in my ARs due to concerns about the steel casings being hard on the rifle. Also, I'm not sure if the bullets themselves have a soft steel jacket. I believe the Sellier & Belot also has steel in the bullet jacket (I tested it once with a magnet). I usually shoot South African PMP, which is reloadable, doesn't have steel casings or bullet jackets, seems to work fine, and can be ordered cheap. I wouldn't worry much about using S&B or the others mentioned however (except for Wolf - which may be fine, but isn't enough cheaper to be worth trying in my opinion).

The cheapest you'll find 5.56/.223 ammo for is maybe 15 cents a round and if you look real hard you'll find more at 17-18 cents a round. Then you're looking at buying ammo of dubious quality since your own only criteria is price. Best bet-buy some Q3131A Winchester from Ammoman.com or another source. It can be had for 20 cents a round and it's good stuff for general purpose shooting.

Any steel case ammo, like Wolf, is hard on the extractor. Also Wolf and some others are laquer(spelling) coated. when the chamber gets hot, this stuff comes off and is hard to remove. I use the cheapest brass case stuff I can find with good results.

I came across a great deal on some ammo recently. So I went out and bought 40 rounds of it and test fire it. I checked for all of the bad things I had heard about it. Gummy laquer, extractor wear and excessive residue. I had no problems so I bought a case. I have fired about 500 rounds of it with absolutely not one malfunction or problem and decent accuracy.

My weapon is a Colt MT6530. The ammo is Wolf 62gr FMJ.

Though I didn't purchase mine from www.ammoman.com the prices are excellent on this and other .223/5.56 ammo.

Here is Wolf' website. www.wolfammo.com

Your experience may vary.

I've been using Federal American Eagle without a hiccup. Got it from http://www.ammoman.com for $79 for 500 rds if memory serves. Price includes shipping. They are really slow, as everyone here knows. I ordered mine on a Thursday evening, and didn't get it until Tuesday. (That Monday was a holiday.)

That was a joke, Eric.
