Ammo Experts Come In! 9mm Question

Need a little help. Was practicing with at the range when one of the R.O. brought me some magtech 9mm 124 grain FMJ ammo ( Ammo Specs ) and asked what I thought about it. I told him it felt like a hotter load. He said to him it felt like it was dirtier and when fired at dusk & there is a huge muzzle flare. My impression was that it wasn't dirtier but I did notice more of a cloud of "junk" coming out of the muzzle when compared to most ammo I use.

My question is: What would cause more flame and particles being ejected out of a round? Mixture of powder? Primer?
I know this sounds funny but it acted more like a sabo type round if that makes sense....
Any help is appreciated.

Primarily, it's the powder

The cheap ammo use cheap components. So the powder is going to burn dirty. As long as the primers are non-corrosive, which most modern primers are, then there's nothing to worry about from primer to primer.

Start reloading and you can custom tune your own load for your own needs. ;)

My guess as to why there is a large muzzle flash and "junk" coming out of the muzzle is . . . . powder that does not completely burn before the bullet exits the muzzle.
It sounds like a slow burn rate powder for the bullet weight and the barrel length.

This had been my experience with handloads over the years.

I have heard from time to time that when someone introduces a new "hot" round, they load it with a powder that will give a huge blast and a big fireball. The pressure isn't any higher, and the velocity isn't any greater (unless a lighter bullet is used) but shooters are suitably impressed by all the "thunder and lightning" and tell their buddies how powerful the new ammo is.
