Does anybody know a good, reliable source for data on ammo performance? Mostly interested in muzzle energy and JHP expansion. Doing research for defensive carry stuff.

Things like muzzle energy are typically listed on the product package and website. Check for the tested barrel length when making comparisons. Used to be that a lot of ammo was tested out of 8 inch barrels.

HP Expansion would be harder to compare, I'd think. Depending on your level of objectivity and so forth, you can sometimes find several brands fired into gel by the same YouTube poster. Make your own decision about how uniform the tests are from brand to brand with the YouTube guys. But at least, I'd try and find the samples all done by the same guy, same circumstances, same gel recipe etc.
