ammo coming out of mag in pouch

old fart

i have a beretta nano, i am using a knife sheath as a mag pouch. this morning as i was putting on my gun and sheath i noticed a rattle. i opened my sheath and a round had came out of the mag and was at the bottom of the sheath. the mag fits good in the sheath and isn't loose inside so i don't know what's going on. now i have carried this sheath with the mag for about 3 months, should i just check the pouch each day or is it cause i'm not using a real mag pouch? thanks for any help

I'm guessing the pouch isn't flush, most mag pouches keep everything where it should be by just being tight. I'm guessing it worked a lottle loose and then a jostle popped it over the lip.

Short of buying a new mag pouch, try inserting something at the bottom to tighten up the "fit" of the mag in the knife sheath. I'm thinking of something firm but not too hard -- a trimmed piece of tire rubber or something like that.

A magazine should not be dumping rounds when in any sort of carrier. Before trying to "fix" the problem by modifying the knife sheath or stuffing something into it, I would investigate to determine exactly how it is that a round (or rounds) could pop loose. If a round can pop loose in a knife sheath, what would happen if you had to carry that same magazine in a pocket?

Any knife sheath that fits a magazine perfectly was crafted to carry a very strange knife.
You might be surprised.
I often use a knife sheath for an extra LCP mag, works beautifully and fits very well.

I suspect that the magazine feed lips might be damaged or bent at an improper angle.

This is not a magazine issue, it is a method of carry issue. It is very common for the top round in a magazine to work itself loose when carried in something loose like a pocket. I have had it happen with various Glock, XD, and LCP mags when carried loosely. This is why I now only carry spare mags in pouches designed for this purpose, my favorite being Magholder which carries the magazine horizontally on the outside of the belt, a great product.
