Like most people who shoot I found myself partial to s suppecific brands...now I like winchester supreme elite jhp. For everyday carrying,,,as for target practice,I will go with speer lawman ball ammo..I've also been know to go the CCI. Route,,,however I've noticed this upsets brand called tulammo..does anybody put there have an opinion on it

Tulamo has reputation for being dirty, but i clean my guns every time i shoot and sometimes without shooting at all and never a problem. good ammo for plunking and such even hd i suppose. If im taking a large deer or other game im persuaded to go for pricier bullets.

seems like this discussion is revolving around pistol ammo, this thread may eventually get moved. there is pretty much a new thread about either wolf or tula(same manufacturer, different box) started every week it seems, some of the forum hounds get tired of the discussion after a while but not everyone browses every forum all the time so sarcasm really isn't called for.

to answer, steel does not expand as much as brass when it gets hot so a larger space exists between the chamber walls and the casing after firing. on direct impingement and blowback systems this cases a large amount of unburnt gun powder to enter the chamber and gunk your gun up faster than brass cased ammo. if you clean often then you will likely notice no difference at all. also there is a large debate that steel casings can dig into feed lips, get bound up inside magazines and snap extractors with prolonged use. I've noticed that a lot of these reported cases revolve around cheaply made products so if you are going to be using it in a Kel Tec or Kahr then I would recommend against it but springfields, smiths, glocks, sigs, HKs, Rugers and just about any mid to top tier guns would work fine.

My problem with steel cased ammo like tula and wolf is it will not cycle my mini-14 with 1911 style recoil buffers on the op rod and gas tube. All other brass cased ammo including my handloads work just fine. Im not going to modify my rifle when it shoots everything else just fine. Those 2 recoil buffers keeps my brass in one spot about 5 feet away and it doesnt get beat up near as bad. On top of that its extremely dirty, more prone to FTF than other ammo, less accurate than most and apparently pretty underpowered. I also reload and I can buy pmc bronze for $6 at a local shop out the door plus I get good reloading brass to boot. I just cant justify buying steel cased ammo that isnt up to American brass cased ammo standards.

Buying some for my mosin nagants or my makarov 9x18 isnt out of the question but right now I have over 600rds of bulgarian heavy ball thats brass cased and S&B and Fiocci make very good and affordable 9x18 ammo so I still have some time to ponder those issues.
