Ammo and an SKS

What brand of ammo do you use for your SKS? I have had nothing but problems with wolf ammo. And from what I've heard around TFL, the steel cases are bad on the rifle. I've also heard that winchester, federal, etc. makes some 7.62, but I don't seem to be able to find some online except for one place...and that price is way to high for a range round. Any help, comments, links, would be appreciated. thanks

Well, the SKS was designed for use with Soviet standard steel cased ammo, so yeah, it may be tougher on the gun that brass cased ammo, but it probably won't be a problem in our lifetime.

watch out for

the corrosive stuff. PITA to clean.
besides that, whatever you feed it. they dont seem to be picky.

I get 3-5 jams/stove pipes per 30rd mag. with wolf ammo. I don't think that it is a cartrige (sp?) seating problem in the magazine either.

Is this all with the same magazine or several different magazines?

The 30rd magazines for the SKS don't have the greatest reputation. I would try the fixed magazine and see if the problem goes away. Wolf ammo has always worked fine in my SKS and AKs.

its with the detachable 30 rounders. i've never even tried the fixed mag. worth looking into. :D thanks. I have an excuse to go shooting now.

I have no problems with Wolf ammo in my SKS' and AKs. I have also heard that the high-capacity detachable SKS magazines are problematic. I'll bet if you put in the fixed 10-round magazine the SKS was designed to use you problems will go away.
