I've owned the GSG-5 and GSG-1911, and both were fantastic guns

Thanks for fixing the link and the info Ridge Runner. Good to hear they make good products. With the price of ammo these days, I can see how those would be a blast to shoot. :)

If these 22lr reproductions take off, I wonder if they or anyone else will come out with a 7.92x33 "Kurz" version. Either way, it would be worth it to show up at the range with one. lol

My GSG-5 was definitely an attention getter at the range.

And you're right, the ability to shoot hundreds of rounds for just a few dollars makes it an appealing prospect. I had to sell my GSG-1911 last year to cover some unexpected bills, but I'd like to get another one.

They are also rebranded and sold under the SIG Sauer label as the 1911-22

It is, but with a few external modifications to make it distinct from an MP-5.

But ATI also sells a kit that will allow you to return it to the original look...

Rumor is, such a thing is being made in Germany. Doesn't seem to be available here however.

I don't know how much demand there would be for it here in the States aside from it being a novelty.

It's heavier than the AK, regarded as generally inferior to the AK, what's more, it shoots a round that's much more expensive and harder to find than 7.62x39, and slightly ballistically inferior to the 7.62x39. Then there's the whole issue of a relative lack of mags, and spare parts. Unless it were to be made entirely here in the USA (very unlikely), it would be subject to 922R, so domestic manufactures would have to get into the business of making StG-44 parts, also unlikely.

Maybe if they built it around 7.62x39, it could be viable, but even then I dunno.

STG 44 replica...built around the 7.62x39...that accepts AK magazines...total success for any manufacturer bold enough to undertake it.

I am not so sure. On the one hand, the simple fact that it's an StG-44 copy may be enough to generate sales, it will have "cool factor" and there are some people are into things that are of historical interest, even if it's something of a reproduction. But at the same time there are a lot of practical people out there, and as far as they will be concerned, it won't do anything that an AK can't, but will likely cost more and weigh a good deal more (the StG-44 weighs over 10 lb's empty compared to the typical AKM weighing under 8 lb's loaded.) "Costs more, weighs more, doesn't do anything more" is liable to turn some people away.

That gun in the fixed link video is a BEAST and its cool, but if I pull the trigger on a gun like that I want it to be something bigger than a .22. even a pistol caliber like 45ACP would give you a feeling close to the original.

I agree with all of you. While it does have a cool WWII factor, at the end of the day it's still just an expensive 22lr. Now don't get me wrong, would I love to have one? Absolutely. Would I spend $600 when a Ruger will do the same thing for less? Probably not.

If its the same price as the mp5 or such id be pretty interested. I totally agree that if it was 7.62x39 it would be a massive success.

How much is it? $600? That's the determining factor. If it's cheap enough, it's a range toy, and just plain fun. :) That price is a bit much for me. :(

Isn't the internet designed for speculation and rumors and 'what if'? :D

The retail price is $599, but if they start becoming available at around the $400-$500 price range, I'll give it a serious look. I already have an outstanding .22 rifle, another one might not be needed...

...but then the history buff in me starts yelling about how the price of the rifle is just slightly less than than an actual StG 44, and it suddenly seems like a very reasonable purchase. The MP40 replica looks interesting for the same reasons.

I'd be more interested in ATI's MP-40 replica. They made mention of it last year, but I've not seen anything about it this time around. Hope they didn't ditch it.
