I just finished watching the premier episode and i have to say not impressed at all. I saw the commercials for it and it had a lot of hype surrounding it but it doesnt seem to actually be a reality show.

What i mean by that it seems scripted. Also it seems to me to be a bit disturbing that they allow that little girl to walk around with low cut tops and what not. But thats my opinion.

The guns in the shop seem very high priced, if you noticed the girl said she sold 4 or 5 guns and it came to 14,000? i saw the three guns she sold and around here they were no where near what they were charging. It just seemed very staged.

Anyway what did you guys think of it? Myself cant say i will go out of my way to watch it next Monday.

The mom is hot!
Tired of "reality" shows...I'm gonna watch cartoons 24x7 soon!

Nice store, helpful employees. Went there once about a year ago to windowshop. They have a lot of collectible guns...but also a bunch of good affordable shootin stuff too.

Only caught a bit of it. The guy going on and on about how hard it was to measure the belly gun they were reproducing made me think he needs to go back to machinist 101. Before CNC everything had to be repeatedly measured and verified, don't see why he had such a hard time.

Also the rivalry between the brother and sister was beyond scripted, it grated on my nerves and I changed the channel.

At the office this morning and a few of my shooting buddies watched it and thought that it was pretty bland. A few attempts at hitting the "PERV" demographic as well as the completely scripted meeting with the rancher.

But it was a bit over the top that the father took a helicopter to buy guns. My friend also noticed the complete inflation of the pricing when the kids were asked about how much they sold????

Anyway i cant see this show going on for a whole season before being cancelled.

If I see one more comment about the Mother or Daughter's breasts or other assets, the person making such comments will be summarily shown the door.

Temporarily or permanently, that will depend on how foul my mood is at the time.

Let's keep this conversation about the firearms aspects of the show. Anything else is off topic.

They're a couple miles away from me. I've never seen the family while in there, I didn't even know it WAS family. After seeing some footage from the Discovery website, I'm glad I cancelled my cable recently.

Someone said something about inflated prices; their new gun prices ARE incredibly inflated. However, their C&R prices are pretty good.

The show itself seems kinda eh, but whatever episode I watched part of featured a neat little "knuckleduster" as they called it. Never saw a gun like that before. Made me wonder in that era what other creative pocket pistols they had.

Like SOG too much of it is scripted. I think that if it isn't interesting enough to stand on its own merits then it shouldn't be shown. Making the knuckle duster was interesting, the Colt SAA that belonged to the sheriff was interesting, as was other gun related material, but it seems that the show is trying to incite conflict with machining problems or with the wife/business manager wanting a $20,000 Winchester sold within a few days of purchase, or pump up excitement with the exploding motorcycle, or increasing urgency by showing piles of cash and using a helicopter to go see some guns. Do we really need to know how good a shot the people are? Who cares if he can break a 1 gal glass jar at 50 ft and do we really need to witness them shoot every gun that comes into the store? More than a little concerned with the explotation of the 17 year old daughter in short shorts and a flesh belt in every scene.

Producers of "reality" shows have an agenda and an outline of a script they want to run before they ever start recording the show. (Friends I have in a different hobby and I have been approached for such a show so I'm not speculating without info)

I wouldn't be surprised if this "family" turned out to be actors hired for the show.

The Sheriff's pistol was quite interesting though.....

Shooting a motorcycle to see it blow up - not so interesting.

Started to watch but when the guy started to say bad words about his wife - that was it.

Who really has a heliocopter standing by? What if the gun collection was in Vermont? Going to fly there in a heliocopter?

1 gallon jug at 50 ft. Why even I could hit that with a rifle!

His "I'm probably the only one who can make a gun from a block of steel" comment made me ignore him from there on.

Ya, That one helped turn me away also. If I still had a machine shop I could make one and I am only a good machinist, not top notch like the ones I learned from.

I watched about the first 20 minutes and channel surfed back to it on occasion - figured it would give me a good idea of if i wanted to keep watching or change the channel. (was switching between lizard lick towing and george lopez too) Channel surfing all 3 because none were of any real "catch" to my attention span.

Ok 5K to make the custom "knuckleduster" I thought was a little high - never had a gun made myself so I could be way off on this.

Then there's the scenes where the brother/sister are competing for the AR15 - Maybe they only showed a few "highlights" of all the sales they made but I def thought the prices seemed very high when they gave the tally at the end.

Guess this is where the guy gets those stacks of cash to put into the dufflebag and take on his helicopter that's on standby! Yes I found this to be very absurd as well!

The whole scene with the gun purchase just read like a novela by a bad author. Which brings up the point of firing off the deck at the glass jars of various liquids. It all just seemed very staged - and the final scene of the brass hitting the ground really didn't do anything to instill confidence in how well this "expert" shoots - but then we don't know how many shots were fired or bottles were setup originally so could be better than they let on.

Then there is the god-awful 50 Cal that I'd be ashamed to be seen with! I appreciate the 50 cal having seen quite a few that looked very nice - but this thing looked like it was designed for an attack by killer clowns!

Which brings me to the next reason i won't be watching the next episode - It was distasteful the way the daughter was portrayed. They are looking to hit the perv button on so many levels with that and it just makes me sick.

in the end - I laughed, I cried, I hit the last channel button!

The first couple of episodes of Sons of Guns showed mostly AKs, and the "gunsmithing" seemed to be done exclusively with hand grinders. Not really of much interest. It took a while, but the show picked up steam, and I sort of enjoy it, now. The drama amongst the cast members is more irritating than appealing, but I like to see the guns that come in the shop.
It will probably take a while for American Guns to hit its stride, but since it's a complete rip-off of SoG, they can maybe learn from the other show's recipe.
I do wish I could find people who were willing to sell their guns at wholesale prices, as portrayed on the show!
