Am I slow or what?

I seem to be unable to grasp the situation with the 38 Super-9/23-9mm Largo, etc....

I just bought a 38 Super Colt 1911 in stainless, and paid slightly more than I wanted to; but I got what I wanted. I thought.

I have been unable to find a 9x23 in 1911; after talking to Springfield, and looking around, it appears that several manufacturers hint about making them, but no one actually does. Therefore, I figured I would buy a 38 Super, and get the conversion kit (if I can find one). This is not my first choice, as I would rather get a pistolsmith to do the work (if it can be done in a reasonable ammount of time and for a reasonable amount of money).

The problem arises when you start doing research in order to buy reloading supplies and other items. What is the relationship between a 38 Super, 9x23, 9mm Largo and other rounds? If you read on the net (where I typically do a lot of resarch into this kind of stuff when it isn't in a reloading manual), one guy says that a 9x23 is just a 38 Super with no rim. The next says no, it is not. Someone says you can load 9x23 with 38 Super dies, and two more jump in and say that no you can't.

I have three reloading manuals (Lyman, Speer and Hornady), and none of the three say the first thing about 9x23. It is not even listed. Anywhere.

Give me whatever information you can. It is appreciated.

Thanks.

You should post this in the Handloading Forum. I don't have my reloading manuals with me, but I believe the Speer #13 has .38 Super and 9mm Largo loads listed. I don't remember if the 9X23 Win was listed. The 9X23 and 9mm Largo have the same external dimensions, but the are very different animals.
