Am I crazy?

For settling on one caliber in two platforms.

I have a chance to obtain a second g19 and second shield 9. I have bought, sold and traded many guns in 9mm, 40, and 45Acp over the last several years. But the Shield and G19 are ones I like the best and for the most part, carry and shoot the best.

For the sake of familiarity and training I thought a second of each would be beneficial to have on hand.

I guess what I am asking is, would you feel comfortable with just these two weapons for all around defensive use?

The only thing that really matters is that you feel confident in your choice of carry. If these are the two models that you have narrowed it down to, then you must have your reasons for keeping these and getting rid of the others. Everyone has their own personal preferences. Both the G19 and Shield have solid reputations and a good following of those who trust in them. As long as you have put enough rounds down both without encountering any issues, then there is nothing crazy at all about feeling comfortable carrying them.

G19 is kinda the quintessential all around defensive use pistol - at least against humans. Fits well for home, carry, and range use. I have one and enjoy it. But I do also enjoy variety. "Comfortable"? Yes. Satisfied? No. :D:p

Agreed but there is no way to ever be 100% satisfied. There's just too many firearms and not enough money in my bank account.

Yup. A small one for hot days and a larger one for cold days or home defense. Great. Just carry the new ones and practice with the old ones (after you have shot the new ones to be confident that there is nothing wrong with them).

I don't subscribe to the "one caliber" theory. 9mm was very difficult to find for a period of time. Presently, .22 lr, short, and magnum ammo is hard to find. What if the only gun you had was a .22?

If I were to have only 3 pistols, I'd have one in 9mm, another in .40 and a third either in .45 or 10mm.

Can't argue with your choice in guns, but you usually acquire a second identical gun because you are afraid the first might go down for some reason. I just don't think of the Glock 19 that way.

I've had my Gen3 G-17 full-size for 6 years, and it's a keeper. But I prefer my Sig P228 and M11-A1, and HK P30 for 9mm compact length guns. And the smallest 9mm I have is a P225.

Bring enough gun.
Bring enough guns.
and a few knives wouldn't hurt either ;)

If you ever have to use one defensively, you'll need another, as they'll take the one you just used.
Evidence & all that...

To answer the question IMHO, no. But...the only thing I would suggest you add is a 12ga and/or a rifle. Then you've got a nicely rounded all around defensive arsenal.

Yes, I usually carry some form of 1911 but have been shooting the heck out of various GLOCKS lately and find them great shooters even for trail and woods guns, I have not got to use the MP's yet but hope to soon. Staying with similar platforms is never a wrong choice.

2 psitols to backup 2 good pistols - hmm.
1st pistol - another of the one you use the most.
2nd pistol - skip for now, see how having multiple of same pistol works out.
===========================
I have multiple of several pistols mostly .22 and some 9mm - good ad fun at first but after a while, only one gets used and the rest sit in the safe for a long periods of time. Even with a variety, the favorite gets the most use.

Unless they were going to stop making them then you should be able to get another of the same if you lose your primary. I could see somebody with say a gen-1 G17 not wanting to shoot it anymore and get a new G17.

follow up

I am glad I could get my sanity verified. Appreciate the responses...I went ahead purchased another G 19 and shield. I am going to move forward with that system and see how it works.

I personally would never stake my life on a firearm that doesn't possess the ability to restrike, but I know lots of people swear by Glocks.
