Alternatives to USP Compact .45 + Laser setup?

I'm considering purchase of a H&K USP .45 Compact with a well mounted, quality laser system. The laser is primarily due to my horrible eyesight, which is OK with glasses but can't be counted on in an emergency situation.

Using normal steel pistol sights on my CZ-75BD I'm an OK shot at 7-14 yards. However, the "what you see, is what you get" accuracy of a laser will be greatly reassuring if I do ever need to use my CCW. I'm a big guy, at 5'11/245lbs, so carrying & concealing the extra bulk of a laser on a "compact" .45 shouldn't be too much trouble.

In your opinions, what are the primary competitors to the USP Compact .45 ?

In my experience, the primary alternatives to the USP45C include the Beretta Cougar 8045, the SIG 245, or a Comander-sized 1911. I had a Cougar, decent gun, but I didn't like the slide mounted safety. I didn't care for the short grip on the 245 (IMO, short, light .45's require a full 3 fingered grip), though with the extended magazine, you're there, but I think they should have just 'done it right' to begin with. I still have a Kimber Compact, which is a bit trimmer and more concealable, though it gives up a round in capacity, and the H&K 45c type 1. I like the H&K's safety, which works like a 1911 (sweeps down to 'off') and allows you to carry cocked & locked if you're so inclined. It has a good trigger, is quite accurate, and has been thoroughly reliable with all kinds of ammo, and is +P rated. Of the bunch, it's the only one with rails for mounting a light or laser. HTH.

Well, a laser is only good in low light situations (well, "good" is even arguable - I generally relegate them to "toy" status). Picking it up in daylight or a well lit room it very difficult, especially if you have bad eyesight. IMHO, it is going to be easier/quicker for you to be able to see the front sight (which will be good enough for point shooting at close range) than wasting your time trying to find a little red dot on a BG.

Lasers are nearly useless for combat type shooting. It takes too long to try and find the dot. It takes even longer in bright light or if you have bad eyesight.
