Alternating Ammo.

quote:
... With regard to the .40S&W, if the "experts" say light and fast is best today, get the 135-155 grain bullets, if the heavier and slow gets the "pros" going tomorrow (as it did a couple of years ago) get the 165-180s ...[/quote]There seems to be two different schools of thought with regard to which type of bullet is best for self defense and both sides present very convincing arguements for their point of view (I'm NOT asking which side is correct because that has been covered before with no clear winner).

Having no actual experience in this area, I alternate every other round in the magazine -- subscribing to both schools of thought (just in case I go with one opinion and the other one turns out to be correct). For example, my S&W 4006 is loaded with Cor-Bon 135gr & Federal 180gr Hydra-Shok every other round.

I've tested this out at the range and there's no problem with feeding or reliability and the recoil from both rounds seem to be about the same (at least as far as I am concerned). I do the same sort of "alternating" with my other calibers (.38, .45, 9mm, etc.) as well.

Does anyone do this or think that it is a good idea? Bad idea? Waste of time?

When I use to carry my Glock 21 I would stagger Speer Gold Dot 200gr+P and 165gr+P Triton Hi-Vel, with the Triton round in the chamber. The way I look at it is that if the hi velocity, hard hitting Triton round didn't do the trick they most likely are on some kind of drugs and there for the only way for them to stop with out a CNS hit will be to bleed out, in which the Speer round will penetrate depper

I too stagger with my HK USP40c. I use 135gr
Corbon HP along with 180gr Black Talon's. I have had no problems with feeding. Not much difference in recoil. Since I carry it for personal defense/home defense, I highly doubt the effects would be "that" drastic. A few other co-workers stack also with Hydra-shok and talons as well.
