Hey guys my name is Brett and I am 18 years old. I have owned a Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 for about 6 months now and I absolutely love it. I have probably fired around 1,250 rounds through it without one misfire. This gun has really taught me a lot and has helped me gain a lot of knowledge about firearms. I go to a local range that only extends out to about 100 yards and I am looking to upgrade to a bigger caliber AR because, well, I simply want to.

What is the best for the money (best bang for your buck) ?

And my price range? I'd like to say around $1,000 would be nice.

Thanks guys and here are a few pictures of my baby (:

The best thing to do is shop around. See what the shops in your area have then go home and research them.

A decent AR in 223/5.56 will run $800+. I would stay away from Hesse, Vulcan and Blackthorne (same company under different names), and plastic recievers (durability issues).

It's a pain, but find the time. That research may very well keep you from finding out that what you though you wanted/needed is really a high price junk pile. It sounds corny, (but when dropping a grand or better) shop smart buy smart.

I say BUILD IT:D Probably a di gas system. I will recommend these specs:
any good quality upper and lower will do
5.56/.223 caliber
A rock river national match trigger.
A lower parts kit minus trigger.
A standard bolt carrier group
Make sure the gas key is well staked (read the reviews)
A forward assist if your lower doesn't come with one.
A dpms mid-length upper parts kit
a charging handle
delton 16in mid length 1 in 7 barrel
A milspec buffer tube, buffer and spring.
A gas block with front sight post
standard handguards
moe stock
Rear sight
Should come out to around 1k after all is said and negotiated, look around for a good deal. You will learn a lot about your gun when you build it than reading a manuel.
