I got my first doe and my first buck! :D Now all I have left is another doe and a spike, and I haven't seen any spikes where I'm hunting.

I had plenty of chances to go when I was younger, but no...video games are funner than hunting. I really wish I could go back and kick myself in the ass for not doing this sooner.

On the doe I shot her in the head and the bullet went into her skull and curved around and came out her jugular (the exit wound was a bit bigger than a quarter). She fell over like she had been hit with a sledgehammer. The buck the bullet must have hit his shoulder and shattered because it looked like a grenade went off in his chest. The only problem was there wasn't a blood trail or anything to follow, and you couldn't even see the entrance wound. He made it about 100 feet, and we just happened to find him.

And I'm planning on using this on my next one.

Congrats on the deer! That Buck is a nice for your first ever. What caliber and distances were these shot at? Details man, we need details :)

Why would you shoot a young spike? Leave it for a few years so it can reproduce and develop into a wall hanger.

Both shots were about 50 yards using a 77gr 5.56 OTM. Worked wonders on the doe, not so much on the buck. I'm definitely switching to a heavier caliber next year.

I'm not planning on shooting a spike. I haven't seen any where I'm hunting. But I have another doe tag, and we think there might be a bobcat running around that needs killin.
