Alliant Power Pro 300 MP Tips?

Okay, here's the deal: a buddy of mine gave me a pound of this stuff, along with a box of Sierra .357 cal. 180 gr. jacketed bullets. Alliant doesn't list data for 180 grain bullets.

So I was wondering if anyone out there had some experience with this powder in either .357 mag with heavy bullets or .44 mag with say, 240 grainers.

Thanks in advance for all of your replies.

I like Alliant powders a lot but I absolutely loathe their lousy published data. In my opinion, the best published data for Alliant powders was in the last printed guide they made BEFORE they went full-bore with the "ATK-products only dumb-down" and that guide was 2005.

So I always refer to the 2005 guide for Alliant published data needs. This obviously leave Power Pro 300-MP out, since it hit the market after 2005.

Handloader magazine did a session with some 300-MP data a few years ago, I think it was .327 Federal, .357, .41, .44, and .454 Casull.

When I get to my log I hope to come back and post some of my own results and findings.

Okay, if your Google-fu is strong you may be able to brew up a search that leads to an excerpt of the original article as published. In the mean time, I copied down some charge weights, chrono returns and such. The original article published some loads for all the calibers I listed above, but nothing in 180gr for .357 Magnum. There were numerous loads in .44 Mag, but I'll list just the 240gr loads here.

These were all launched from a 7.5" barrelled Ruger Blackhawk.

Alliant Power Pro 300-MP, 44. Magnum
240gr XTP 23.0gr 1402fps
240gr XTP 24.0gr 1440fps
240gr XTP 25.0gr 1491fps
240gr Gold Dot 23.0gr 1389fps
240gr Gold Dot 24.0gr 1423fps
240gr Gold Dot 25.0gr 1480fps
240gr Nosler JHP 23.0gr 1415fps
240gr Nosler JHP 24.0gr 1454fps
240gr Nosler JHP 25.0gr 1502fps

Sorry. no info on primers, brass, COAL, weather or anything else.
PLEASE USE THIS INFO WITH EXTREME CAUTION!
This is NOT published and lab-tested data, this is a couple of guys that built some loads and chrono'd them -- and even then, you are only seeing my best attempt to copy and share what they had printed in a magazine.

Consider all of these absolute max loads until you find true, lab-tested and published load data. Approach with caution using safe load development methods.
