All I wanted was a cheap 22...

...and what do I end up with???

Got out of work early so I figured I'd visit my fav gun shop to price out some gun powder and a Taurus 22LR snubbie. No Taurus in stock...only a $400 something S&W. Grrrr...let's see what's in the used case. Was looking at J frames and a Python when I noticed a Blackhawk in 41 mag. Was never too big into Ruger pistols because I never liked the grips or triggers, but I figured looking is free.

I take hold of this thing, and whatdayaknow, Hogue grips. This thing kinda feels nice. The counter guy is like "Hey, check out the trigger on that thing...no trigger bar cuz it's kinda old." So I squeeze the trigger...man, this is damn nice. Look at the price tag and it says $249 w/ extras. Hmmm I was gonna spend about that on a 22. I put it back and talked about powders and 22's for a while, trying to let my interest in a goofy caliber fade away.

Naturally I bought it. LOL. Turns out the extras were the factory grips, a nice leather cowboy action belt and holster (too bad I dont have a 34 inch waist), 3 RCBS dies, 100 brand new cases, 200 or so used cases, 200 cast bullets, 100+ Speer jacketed soft points, about 100 loaded rounds, and a few ammo storage boxes.

Stopped at the indoor range on the way home to try out my new toy. I was kinda nervous after shooting my dad's brand new SRH 44 mag, but I always heard the 41 was pretty pleasant. I was absolutely amazed! The recoil felt equal or less than my 686 with magnum loads! Groups were good (for me anyway) and I handled it as if it were a 38+P by the end up my session of 40-50 rounds.

The 41 mag now has another convert added to the list of people keeping it alive. It is nothing like shooting a 44 and is a great round. Now I'm even more impatient on getting the rest of my reloading gear Granted, it's no 22LR, but I think I can cope with that. :D

I;m jealous! LOL I think you did great on that deal. You have a collectible. 41 Magnum, a unconvered 3 screw Ruger and a vintage Ruger. The new Ruger single actions have INTERNAL LOCKS.

You just have to love the redheaded stepchild of the handgun magnums. They have a quality all of their own. I have yet to see one that wasn't accurate.
Now don't shout to loud as we try to keep the rest of the world in the dark so we can horde all the .41mags. ;)
