I really don't know all the details in the Universal Background Check package that many want to implement, but have a question. First, let me say up front, I DO NOT agree with a National registry for guns. I am a gun owner and have purchased handguns on the internet, from local gun shops, bought and sold thru private in-state transactions.
My "pondering": Wouldn't it be helpful if ALL gun sales (in-state/private/gun show)had to go through an FFL holder? (NO national registering though)
My reason: In many cases, private sales are a joke. Many guns exchange hands and the buyer and seller haven't the slightest clue as to whether the other person is legally able to possess, buy and sell firearms. I know that there are those who like the current way of doing business because they can buy and sell and the firearm can never be traced back to them - they can even go out of state (like make a FTF sale at a gun show) and sell a handgun and no one is ever the wiser.
Just like to hear why or why not.
