Algore has an exit strategy…

This was floated earlier when we heard of the “emergency” appeal to expedite reinstating the hand re-re-re-recounts. Now with the news that Algore wants yet another count of ballots in the disputed areas after the certification we have summated an exit strategy.

Algore is attempting to force the hand of the Florida Legislature with a last minute barrage of legal and political maneuvering. He is attempting to force the Legislature into appointing the electors for Bush and effectively put an end to this nightmarish scenario.

Algore could then concede and blame it on the Majority held legislature of Florida and the Governor Jeb Bush.

Any ideas?

This scenario is entirely possible since the dems are always looking for new ways to demagogue (sp?) us evil, right-wing conspirators.

It is more likely that Gore is playing to the legislature than it is for him to get the FL Supreme court to intervene again. Their last act tore the scab off the wound and in front of the world legislated from the bench. I hear from people on the ground that there may be moves to impeach (imagine that) court members for their overreach.

Gore has to find an excuse for his defeat. More importantly the democrats need a scapegoat for the next two years. Your scenario is entirely possible.

Florida Legislature to Democratic Congress Advantage

I believe that the strong Democratic congressional support is the result of just such a strategy, which is seen as a winning strategy for the off year elections. Florida legislature today, Democratic congress in two years. It is making the best of a bad situation. Of course, it could backfire, but this is the most logical end game.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the FL state legislature certifies a slate of electors for Bush, that can be challenged and must be voted upon by the US House of Representatives. If they vote to certify those electors, the matter then goes to the US Senate. The Senate is now split 50-50, so the deciding vote would be cast by the president pro-tem of the Senate who is...Al Gore.

Again, that's my understanding of the process, so feel free to correct.
