Everyone one on these forums does a good job presenting arguements against gun control. Unfortunately, the only people reading our comments are mostly people who already feel the same way. Well, today (and only today) we have an opportunity to tell the rest of America how we feel via USA Today. So, log on and tell them the following:

If the smart gun technology is such a great idea designed to save lives, why are the police exempt from having to use it? After all, by the department of Justice own figures, a large number of police are shot with their own weapon and a large number of stolen police firearms are later used in crime.

Accoridng to Newsweek (and maybe other sources) gun crime is at a thirty year low -- largely in part because a majority of the states (31 and counting) have established "shall issue" concealed weapons permits. Criminals are afraid of being injuried or killed during a crime and since they don't know who might be armed and who isn't, they are turning to less violent crime. Why does the current administration want to introduce additional laws to further restrict gun ownership? Which will led to an increase in violent crime again once criminals start to realize that the population is no longer armed.

Why are trigger locks being pushed down our throats? Responsible gun owners already secure their weapons. Unresponsible gun owners will not bother to use a trigger lock just like they now fail to properly secure their weapon.

Police are exempted from the 10 round limit in magazines. Yet trained police officiers have a hit rate of only around 50%. If highyly trained police officiers hit their target only about half the time, it is reasonable that a less trained home owner will have a lower hit ratio. Under these conditions, 10 rounds may not be enough especially if more than one intrudor has entered a home. Criminals who want to go on a massive shooting spree, plan it out ahead of time and stock up on plenty of magazine. The only ones who are hurt by this 10-round limitation are law abiding citizens who are trying to protect their families.

These "Gun Safe School Zones" are safer for who? Since this law was past, more school shooting have occurred than before. The shooting at the high school should have never happened because there are laws that do not allow guns in and around schools. Why didn't this law protect our children? Maybe it's because criminals do not obey laws -- including gun laws. Maybe if there was an armed adult, these type of shootings could be stopped faster since someone with a gun is already present. Maybe just the possibility that someone could shot back at the shooter will prevent a shooting from even happening.

There are those who say that we should treat guns like cars but when we buy a car, no background check is done to see if the person is a safe driver and no references are collected to see if the person has a problem with hostility (road rage) or drinks or uses drugs. Car makers are not sued when their products are inproperly used -- either when alcholol is involved or when the speed limit is exceeded. Yet, gun makers are expected to assume responsibility when their product is misused.

Another licencing myth about cars.

You do NOT need to licence/register a car on purchase, nor to own or keep it when licencing expires.

You get those things to use them on the road. Ever see those "assault cars" being trailered to drag strips? They're not registered, and you don't need a licence to own/use one.

Battler.

Still another myth - if we license gun users like car drivers, does that mean we will have unrestricted freedom to be able to carry our guns everywhere that we are now able to drive, i.e., schools, churches, govt. buildings, parks, etc. I DON'T THINK SO!

I'm moving this to the General Discussion Forum where the same topic has also been posted. The one with the fewer responses will be locked.

ALL MEMBERS NOTE: Please do not start the exact same topic in more than one forum of TFL. We have limited resources and having the same discussion going on in several forums is a waste of them. Select the most appropriate forum and post the topic once.
