Greetings from the Alabama Gun Bigots
HB600 - Introduced to Alabama Legislature 05 April 2007.
Sponsoring Representatives: Todd, Rogers, Robinson (O), Dunn, Scott, Moore(M), and Hillared - RFD Judiciary.
Synopsis:
"This bill would require each person who possesses an automatic or semi-automatic weapon to register with the Department of Public Safety pursuant to procedures established by the department. This bill would define automatic or semi-automatic weapons. This bill would restrict the use of the information received from registrants. This bill would provide penalties. This bill would provide for the disposition of the fees and penalties. (skipping extraneous details related to Alabama Constitution) ... The purpose or effect of this bill would be to require a new or increased expenditure of local funds within the meaning of the amendment. However, the bill does not require approval of a local governmental entity or enactment by a 2/3 vote to become effective because it comes within one ot the specified exceptions containted in the amendment" (This refers to Amendment 621 Section 111.05 which is not particularly important to our discussion here.)
Looking at the text of the bill we find that it is referred to as the "George Amison Jr. Act" and it covers ALL SEMI AUTOMATIC PISTOLS, RIFLES, and SHOTGUNS regardless of caliber or gauge. Furthermore, page 3 - line 15 of this bill specifies there will be a $ 50 fee for each SEMI Automatic or Automatic firearm registered.
HEADS UP ALABAMA GUN OWNERS:
While it is easy to believe this will never past the Alabama House or Senate, LET US NOT ASSUME ANYTHING. This bill is a real POS that needs to be flushed quickly.
Here are some links for the bill and a zip code search for Alabama Representatives:

We could use some help from out-of-state supporters. Simply pick a zip code for any place in Alabama and e-mail an appropriate message. Even though we all know this legislation is a POS and really it stinks, please try to keep your message clean. Thank You.
