Dan,
Thanks for the help on the Model 19 and 66 revolvers. I have two more if you can take the time. First one is a S&W Model 17-2, which is a K22 Masterpiece if I got correct information. The serial number is K7039xx. Any information you could give me on this wonderful .22 revolver would help. I purchased the revolver from a uncle about 8 years ago for $ 125. The weapon is in great condition with just one area at the muzzle that shows a little wear to the bluing. I always wondered just how old it was?

The second revolver is a S&W Model 10, .38 special. I think. I can't find a model stamping on it. "Smith & Wesson" is stamped on the left side of the barrel.
".38 S&W special CTG" is stamped on the right side of the barrel. On top of the barrel reads "Smith & Wesson Springfield, Mass. USA.....Patented Feb 6, 06. Sept 14, 09. Dec 29, 14.". When you open the cylinder it has a number stamped on the frame......."765xx". It is a square butt revolver and on the bottom of the butt, it also has a stamped number......"9074xx". Any information you could give me on this revolver would be a big help.

Once again, Thank You for your time and effort. I really appreciate your time and knowledge with these revolvers.

Hi Your 17-2 ISa very fine revolver. Yours was made in late 1966 and just before the -3 change which mainly deleted the diamond grips. At $125 you are into it for well under 1/2 of what it's worth. The other, from your description and a matching of serial #'s sounds like a ( pre model 10) .38 Military and Police model 1905, 4th change which were built from 1915 through 1942. Yours is a late manufacture in this series and was likely made within a couple of years from production end. ( Sorry the book doesn't get any more specific.) It should look something like my 1st model:

FWIW, If your intereste in S&W's you should get yourself a copy of the Standard Catalog of S&W (2nd) . It's only $25 or so and provides hours of entertainment .

Greeting's Dave-

I concur with my friend Tacoma's finding's, as the S/N range
for the 17-2 ran from K658987 thru K715996 in 1966.

The other weapon should be as Tacoma described, a pre model 10.
Both guns are worthy of a lot of TLC, and would make nice additions
to any collection. Enjoy~

Best Wishes,

Thank you for the information Tacoma. What would be the value of the S&W model 1905? The revolver is in great condition, it has some bluing wear at the muzzle and on the cylinder. It does look very much like the one you show in the pic. I find it hard to believe that this revolver is more than 60 years old.

Thanks

Dave

I'm probably not the right person to ask about value on theseas I don't collect allot of pre-war S&W's. Teh folks over at the pre 45' revolver forum @ http://www.smith-wessonforum.com/cgi-bin/sandwcgi/ultimatebb.cgi would be better suited. FWIW, I paid $180 OTD for this one but it had been reblued . Also FWIW the "book" says $250 in excellent to $140 in GD.

As for the age, my only other oldie is a 39' K-22 Outdoorsman . IT's VERY accurate and has a great trigger. (I even won a trophy with it at one shoot.) The M&P above makes the Outdoorsman look like a youngster at just shy of 100 years old. I just took it home so I havn't had a chance to test it out yet. ( Mild loads of course!) Looking forward to it though. :D
