Al and elitism

Did anybody else feel like I did when Al (in the debate) showed the "real Al" when, in talking about the farm program, mentioned that "most of you won't understand, but bear with me."? He thinks only the smart, elite, 'chosen ones' from Washington have sense enough to make decisions for all the rest of us. That attitude is what needs to be removed from Washington. It is supposed to be a government "of the people, by the people and for the people"!

I thought he simply meant that most Americans won't understand farm policy and I think he's right about that. I certainly don't. He has at least spent some time on a farm, albeit raising tobacco, so he probably does know something about farms.

I don't think Gore would know a farm if
he was sitting in the middle of a pig pen,
he is a member of the Washington liberal
left.. I have been a union member and average
type and wonder how people can be fooled when
he says he is for the working man.
We have a steady erosion of our basic freedoms and under Gore this big government
will continue. The constitution sets limits
for government not the people however liberals see this in reverse.
I will vote Bush next week, early voting.!!!

See, now I know why we should be wary of this type of post.

What was it gore told 'big' tobacco? 'I've raised it, I've plowed it, and I've hoed it'-- I wonder, did he do that while living in a Washington Hotel??? -- get real

Yep.

Gore spent his summers on the family farm in Tennessee. It doesn't make him a farmer, or even a genius on farm policy. Yes, I'm sure he got plenty of the farm policy stuff in DC.

That doesn't make the comment cited in the post elitist. Both Gore and Bush are elitist and it would be hard to rate one over the other. One went to Harvard, the other to Yale. One went to St. Albans prep. The other to Phillips Academy. One's father was Senator. The other's grandfather was senator and father v.p. and pres.

It would be pretty hard to call either of these guys "of for or by" the people.

Why are you "wary" just because somebody disagrees with you over the merits of a particular politician?

See "No New Taxes, Part 2" Gee, abruzzi, you seem to be all over this site defending your buddy, gore no wonder you became a senior member. Bush might be richer than I'll ever be but he is not an elitist. You might have been influenced by gore's claim[lie?] that he also raised 10,000 chickens.

Does anybody know why some of us are denominated senior v. non-senior? Pointing out the elitism of both of these guys is not stating a preference for either.

abruzzi:

Right or wrong, I get the feeling you are 'trolling'. My grandaddy owned a farm. All I did during the summers was ride the tractor and shoot his shot gun and my .22's. I didn't plow, pluck, or harvest a thing. Most I ever did was hull beans and shuck corn while sitting on the porch. I doubt Gore has any in depth knowledge of the land outside DC policy papers.

So who are you voting for? Me? Bush. I want him picking SC judges. We will need them when Emerson reaches that level.
