AK47 question

Am pondering a Romanian SAR-1. Do these have non-milled receivers? If so, what kind of durability can be expected? Does anyone sell non-custom (i.e. inexpensive) AKs that do have milled receivers? Thanks...

Get a Bulgarian SA-93.... although with as high as AKs have gotten in price recently(they are skyrocketing), you'd be able to get a Vepr for about the same or a bit more, and they are .308....

My uncle recently bought one at a gun show for $300 including fees and taxes and such. I cleaned it up for him and it looks good. I think that the receiver is US stamped one. We did not shoot it yet seeing that it is too cold lately here in PA. I can post something later if this changes. The bad news is that they just banned importation of these in kit form that they build the complete rifles on. So I am sure that the prices will climb soon if not already. I think that Krebs does a nice modification of the vepar to an AK style. Saw there ad in the shotgun news recently. Hope that this helps--DAROGUE1

I'm not aware of any Romanian AKs that have a milled receiver.

Classic Arms is advertising a barreled and headspaced milled AK that's missing only the fire control parts and furniture for $250. Add the KVAR US stock set for $90 and US fire control parts for around $60, then you'll be ready to rock. Though it doesn't say it, Bulgaria is the only country, that I am aware, that imports milled AK receivers and they are good.

I had a SAR-1. The recievers are made in Romania. They are all stamped recieves like most of the AKs in the world. You'd be better off with a stamped one in my opinon as the milled ones are 2 pounds heavier and its very noticable. Stamped ones are just as accurate, which usually isn't that great anyway and lighter and cheaper because a lot of people think the milled ones must be better. It would be best if you could see an example of each type first, maybe one or the other will call out to you. The romanian ones have a rough military finsh, some other models are more finished looking.
