AK rails....Ultimak or TGW "dogleg"?

The sights on the AK give me fits, and I have debated for a long time about a sight change, or a rail. I was about to commit to the Ultimak rail (gas tube/aka "scout") but recently heard and researched the TGW "dogleg" (gen II).

Would like to hear from "dogleg" and Ultimak users as to their experience and pros and cons of each system. Most interested as to the ruggedness and durability..........don't want something on an AK that will not withstand heavy use.

I have both and both work well and maintain zero so I think it's just a matter of preference. The one advantage of the Dogleg is that you can cowitness with irons (if you buy the rear peep) if you want that feature. You won't go wrong either way.

I have an Ultimak and it is rock solid. The Ultimak and the H1 sight shift the balance of the gun a bit, but I am willing to make that work for me.

Ive had Ultimaks on a couple of AK's since they first came out and have been very happy with them. Well made, simple and rock solid (no moving parts), and never a problem.

At the time I got them, they were the only mounts that would allow you to cowitness your iron sights to the dot. Everything else either sat to way to high and you had no cheek, or even chin weld what so ever. The others sat lower but blocked the sights.

I think the biggest advantage to the forward mounted sight is, its out of the way of both handling and your field of view. The sight isnt right up in your face like the rear mounted sights. The rifle shoulders quickly and naturally and snap shots are a breeze. I never found the balance to be off or affected by the sight being forward, and I have Aimpoint M2's on mine, not one of the smaller sights.

thanks

The iron sight link did not want to load for me, but I am familiar w/ the AccuSight. I had also considered XS Big Dots. The idea of a minimalist sight on an AK seemed "right". But...

Latest track has been rail with an optic, not necessarily a dot either. I was close to buying an Ultimak till I learned of the TWS dogleg.

Now unsure again.
