AK cowitnessing sight options

I read an article in sn about practical ak accecories and it discussed cowitnessing the sights to a low profile or micro red dot. Id thought that was imposskble but I stand corrected. The Midwest Industries and Ulti-mak mounts were both used and Im wanting the ultimak myself now. Anyone familiar with either mount? Im mounting a UTG g/r compat sight on a centry built AK74, so $100 seems stiff but if it works I thin; its worth it. Any got a review on them?

Ive had Ultimaks on a couple of AK's since they first showed up. They work great and Ive never had a problem with them. I have Aimpoint M2's mounted with an Aimpoint low ring on mine, and they do cowitness with the factory irons. Not all sights will cowitness, its going to depend on your sight and its mount.

The article said. Andwhen I visualize it Im guessing they will show at the bottom of the optic. Im also goint to try the therma cool lower handguard, ever heard of those? Thank you for the reply

there's one other mount that uses the AK scope rail. I forget the name but I saw a review of it on the military arms channel on youtube. I haven't decided if I want to run that one of the MI rail.

When you shoulder the gun, and look at the irons, they are in the lower 1/3 of the tube. The dot will come down onto the irons when you look at them too, thats the cowitness part. Cheek weld is basically the same for both. You just roll your head slightly for one or the other.

Havent heard of the handguard, so I cant help you there.

I have the MI rail and my TRS-25 does not co-witness with the factory sight...but it doesn't really matter since you can pull the MI mount off and you have full use of your sights. The MI mount is very nice since it sits so low, mounting a 1-4 scope with low rings would give a great cheek weld.
