I was doing a little thinkng today and decided to look into getting an ak. I was thinking a couple hundred bucks for a decen shooter. I figured maybe get some mags and couple hundred round of ammo as well.

When I got on gunbroker to check them out, they are sooooooooo expensive. the cheapest one that I found was like a 450 buy it now. Thats way more han I ever thought they would be. Thats getting into low level ar territory. for that much I may as well buy a del ton kit and striped lower.

I guess my questoin is, why are they so expensive now, and also is there anywhere to buy them cheaper????

I would like to know the answer to that as well. A year or two ago WASR 10s were going for $300-$350. Lately I haven't seen one under $430. I like the stores that run a "sale" or "special" on WASR 10s for $450, claiming a savings of $250. On what planet is a WASR 10 worth $700!!

I may get some Flak for this. But last week when I bought my lower for my lgs they had a whole rack (sitting out on the floor) of AK's. And for the price they wanted for these used AK's (400+) I would not own one of the rattle traps! I would rather spend 250 on an SKS!

because everyone has to have one! i got one in a trade, and ended up selling it for $500 a few weeks back. cycled good, but much past 50 yards its worthless. glad i sold it. if i were looking for a 7.62x39 i would go sks any day of the week. my brothers yugo is dead accurate to about 250-300

they seem to have increased in price a little probably wont get any cheaper either so if you want one might as well buy it. or build an ar, but even a cheap parts kit and stripped lower is going to likely be 550-600 by the time you add a sight and some mags for a basic ar.

The cheapest new AK would be a Draco. I can get them for around $425. The cheap rifles were around $500 when they were here. And if you want an SKS instead, they've nearly doubled in price in less than a year. They were $350, now are $650.

Chinese sks here in good condition 200-250. Yugo 350-400, Russians 500-800, Albanian, Romanian, Vietnamese, and North Korean I have never seen.

You can find US built AK's for about what you would pay for a Chinese AK in the mid 1980's. If that isn't "cheap", I don't know what is! Of course, better builds will cost more money, but the $400 ones work.
