AK-47 What Malfunction Can Cause An AK-47 To Shoot Auto?

Anyone know why an AK-47, that is being fired semi-auto and apparently has been functioning properly, would suddenly send a 3 round burst downrange, then go back to firing properly?

Thanks,
Glenn B

Let's hypothesize, there may have been a little bit of fouling from previous shots that were fired but no debris in the trigger mechanism.

How was the gun being shot at the time? Is it possible that it just "bumped"?

Next question would be, have you looked inside at the FCG? Does everything appear to be in order?

How about clean? Has the gun been maintained?

have you cleaned your firing pin recently, that might be part of the problem. were you using ammo with soft primers? if so that can lead to problems with sticking firing pins as well

Hypothetically, it was clean before shooting. About 60 rounds fired. Then burp, 3 shot burst. Then back to single shots. Don't think that the shooter did what it took to bump fire. Ammo was Wolf Militarty Classic HP, steel case.

AK-47

The firing pin channel may be dirty, intermittently keeping the pin fixed in the forward position. This would cause one or more slam fires when the bolt rides forward chambering the next round.

My guesses, in no particular order:

- Inadvertent bump fire. Operator error.

- Debris in the firing pin channel, causing a slamfire condition.

- The hammer is not being properly held by the disconnector or the trigger hook(s) are slipping or chipped. An inspection of the fire control group should show this.

Had a double fire with my Garand recently. General consensus was I accidentally bump fired it when shooting on the bench. We ruled out a slam fire as the firing pin channel was clear and it didn't happen when I chambered a round.

My Saiga doubled once, which was enough for me (seriously got my attention). Not sure what caused it, but I clean it well after each firing now.

primers

Had a heck of a time with my Garand once, and traced it back to a bad priming tool that was seating primers high. My bad for not paying closer attention.

With the wide variety of quality of imported ammo, could you have a box or batch w/ high primers?????

My guess would be bump-fire. The only other thing I can think of would be worn or broken semi-auto sear or safety sear, which is unlikely.

It should be a floating firing pin,Ive heard that mentioned a few times, first thing I'd check. In between complete breakdowns(cleaning) I still give it a courtesy check.
