AK-47 peep sight

So I am looking to possibly replace my AK irons with a peep of some kind. I've done a some research and I've found two options that intrigue me.

1. Mojo Peep sight - http://www.mojosights.com/
2. Tech-Sights Aperture sight - http://www.tech-sights.com/

Now both are adjustable for windage and elevation but the tech almost doubles my sight radius. Its one draw back is field stripping is not as easy.

Anyway, I'm trying to get some more info from anybody who has played around with either.

Thanks for the help.

havent played with either of those (heard good things about the tech-sights though), but the set up Im using is very nice... very pricey... but very nice. Take a look at the krebs rear sight receiver rail. Its got m16a2 flip sights (windage and elevation adjustable), and doesnt hinder field stripping. Aside from the upgraded irons you get a generous picatinny rail just incase you decide you want some optics. A similar but cheaper option would be the TWS dogleg rail with the optional peep sight. The bad part about that is that the sight isnt adjustable, the good part is that its the lowest mounting rear rail you can get, so its easier to get a cheek weld on your optics. But if those are out of your price range, Id go with the tech-sights since it does increase the sight radius.

If you want it to work like a true peep, the closer you get the peep to your eye, the better. The TWS will do that for you, the Mojos will not.

The Mojos are not a "true" peep, and dont work like one. They are to far away from your eye to do so. You still need to consciously "align" the front and rear sight with them, just like you do with the standard leaf sight.

Yeah that was my concern with the Mojo sight, it is not a true peep and will most likely be less precise than my stock irons.

I'm probably going to replace my front sight to a smaller post and put another 500-1000 rounds before I change anything. I posted this to try and get a feel for any other irons people liked.

Thanks for the help, I'll keeping doing research.

yup

103K has same thoughts I do. A forward mounted peep is missing the point and optically and practically not an improvement.

The tech sights seem more better.

Have you looked at the Tx gun Works rail, that has a factory peep available as an accessory?

I have been looking for some time as to what I will do with my variant as improvement on the sights.

I found the Mojo sight to be more accurate then the stock irons. But everyone is different.

I had the Mojo on my SKS. It's simply a ghost ring, not a true peep like on the Garand. Highly recommend the Tech instead.

Both of those will work but as you said, disassembly is a pain. If you want ease of operation with a peep sight that holds zero, I recommend the TWS dogleg. I have it and it works as advertised. FWIW, Russia is using a new rail cover that's almost identical on their new AK. I guess they just let the American free market figure it out for them! :D

I just looked at the tws dogleg that you posted, must admit that looks pretty neat, I could imagine putting that on my long barreled saiga 308, as well as another standard ak. Run's around $180 for the rail and peep sight. Russians are darn lucky that we design so many ak improvements.

Hey guys, you should post a link when you switch to another piecve of hardware so we can look at it.

TWS (Texas Weapon system) $139, with peep at $39

Looks interesting, rail is more what I need.

Krebs makes one as well. God awful expensive at $295 or more, but uses the rear screw to stock to secure a latch (lets you release it and service the gun). Really nice piece of kit but pretty pricey for an AK.

My eyes need an optic of some kind so these last two may work better, though I have to rethink the peep sight thing and see if I can make it work the way its supposed to (I have a 1903 with an old Lyman 34 I can try that on

I put a Tech Sight on my SKS and really like it. If you follow the instructions when you mount it it will return to zero when disassembling for cleaning. They are about the only iron sights my old eyes can use beyond 50 yds anymore. I found them to be a quality product even tho it took a while to get them once ordered. Worth the wait.

Sorry rc20, computer illiterate never learned how to post links, or pics. I'll 2nd arch308 tech sights makes good products, I also have their sights on a sks and 10-22, both have remarkabley improved my accuracy.

I have Tech Sights on my 10/22 and really like them, which is why they were first on my list too research.

Thanks for the info guys.

Sa'll right. I clunk my way through this stuff as well. Have no idea how to post pictures and as I do not expect to, am not going to try to figure it out (at least until I get a high speed connection).

I am very interested in the TWS setup as it would do what I want at a lot less than the Krebs which looks like a sweet piece of work.
