Airline Travel/Upper receivers

I am traveling home with a AR-10 upper receiver assembly. I do not have a locked case to put it in but it DOES fit in my checked baggage. Do I have to declare it even though it is not a firearm? Should I just tell them there is a barrel assembly but not a complete firearm? Or should I say nothing? It is Alaska Airlines.

Probably best to call and ask. The distinction between part of a gun and what's legally considered a firearm would not be one I'd want TSA or an airline trying to figure out when I needed to board a plane. Or avoid the issue all together and mail it to yourself.
