Aimpoint Patrol Rifle Optic or Aimpoint Comp M2

I'm looking on updating my red dot on my M&P 15 OR to either an Aimpoint Pro or the Comp M2.

I used the M2 (M68 CCO) on my last tour and am very familiar with it. I like everything about it.

I've read a little about the PRO. It's cheaper and already comes with a mount. However, I have not seen one in person. Does anybody have personal experience with the PRO? What are your likes and dislikes about it?

I don't want an EOTech or ACOG, they are great optics but it's just my personal preference.

Thanks in advance.:)

Received my PRO via FedEx last night. As far as I can tell, it is identical to a CompM3 (2 MOA dot version), except the battery life is supposedly a little shorter (3 years - but I think that's still longer than a CompM2/M68 without ACET technology, if I remember correctly). Haven't zeroed or shot with it yet, but I hope to this weekend. Looking at it though, it exhibits the same quality you'd expect from any other Aimpoint red dot. Bright clear optics with a crisp, bright dot. To be honest, though, the 2 MOA dot doesn't seem any smaller to me than a 4 MOA dot unless you have the brightness set to say, 6 or less.

The included mount is very nice and extremely sturdy, but the locking knob is HUGE, and overall, it seems a little heavier than I anticipated. Works as advertised, though. Very easy to mount and the knob is supposed to torque the attachment screw the perfect amount (with 3 clicks of the knob). The mount height provides absolute cowitness with my Troy Folding Battlesights (which I'll just keep folded down now). I'm happy with the mount so far, and I see no need to replace it with a LaRue or anything else.

Like I said, I haven't zeroed/shot yet, but I'm very happy with my decision so far. Unless you just have to have an extreme battery life (as if 3 years isn't extreme anyway), or have to have a LaRue or similar mount, I think it's probably the best deal going for a high-quality red dot.

Fishbed thanks for the quick review. I'm thinking it will probably be just as good as any of the aimpoint products. Would like to hear more after your first trip to the range. Safe shooting.

Took the PRO out Friday afternoon on my new carbine build (16" Spikes Tactical upper on Palmetto State Armory lower). Couldn't be more pleased! It was a sunny (and HOT!) day here in SC, but the dot was crisp and bright on the #6 setting. After zeroing in the red dot, my father and I proceeded to shoot nickel-sized groups all afternoon long from our makeshift rest. I was able to consistently manage fist-sized groups freehand standing. Granted, we never shot from very far away (about 50 yards max), but the function was still flawless. The dot was always easy to pick up, even for the old man's eyes (it was his 59th birthday)! :) The next task will be to try it at longer ranges (100 or 200 yards).

The weight concern that I expressed earlier about the PRO and it's mount never really came into play. My rig's a tad on the heavy side anyway (9" Spikes BAR quad rail), so the weight of the PRO and its mount was rather negligible.

I'll have to say, after considering some other options (Eotech 512, Vortex Strikefire, and Vortex Sparc), I'm glad I went with the PRO!

Glad that Aimpoint put out another great product! I'm saving up for it (halfway there). Could buy it outright but the Mrs would notice the quick dip in funds. :D Thanks again.
