AIM Surplus M44 Mosins?

Hey all! AIM Surplus has the M44 Mosin Nagant carbines in stock. Here they are listed on the website:

http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.a...sian+Mosin+Nagant+Model+1944+7.62x54R+Carbine

They are described as beautiful rifles in "great condition" with a few pictures but nothing really close up. I am just wondering if anyone out there has recently bought an M44 or other Mosin Nagant from AIM Surplus, and if so, did it meet your expectations and was the condition accurately described?

I am in the market for an M44, but most of those I've seen on other sites selling them show examples that are either very well used or are quite expensive for one in good shape. I hoping these AIM guns are truly going to be good examples, I'll be picking the +$10 hand select fee if I decide to order one.

So what do you all think of this, and do you have any reports on these guns from AIM? Thanks! :)

If you have your C&R, IMO you'd be better off getting one from SOG.
They are in stock for $250.

First, the price is less.

Second, the ones AIM has are the Molot "Billboard" rifles with the horrendous import stamp on the receiver. Might be fine as a shooter- but limited value as a collectible.

tobnpr, what do you suppose the difference in value between a billboard marked rifle and another, with an import mark less conspicuous, is?

$25? More?

Difference in value to a shooter, nil. The Molot might ( and probably would) be in better condition, as they're refurbs.

In general, collectors place declining values on a firearm based on the size- and location- of the importer's stamp.

Those with no import marking (pre- '68), or veteran bring-backs have a premium. Prior to 2002, when ATF added the verbage "must be conspicuously engraved, it could often be found in less well, conspicuous, locations on the rifle.

"Billboard" (as they're called) import stamps are the least desirable from a collector's standpoint. That said, if I were buying one to be a shooter- I'd buy the Molot.

But to answer your question- I can't. Depends on the buyer, IMO.

All other things (condition, etc.) being exactly equal, on that particular rifle it would be more than $25 to me, as a collectible.

You think paying for somebody else to "choose the cosmetically best one of the 5" is worth $10? "Cosmetically" doesn't mean it'll have a better barrel.
Ever shoot an M44? Felt recoil and muzzle blast are astounding.

I have to agree, my M38 and a friend's M44 are not pleasant to shoot. The 91/30 is tolerable with a Limbsaver. Either way sights are so crude it's an exercise in futility hitting anything smaller than a paper plate at 100 yards.

The friend that has an M44 tried my M1 and he was instantly hitting on target at 200. Just saying.

Me and my brother shortened his 91/30 to have a 16.5" bbl, cut away most of the stock, and installed a LER scope. I know what to expect when firing a short barrel Mosin LOL!

As to the billboard marking, it doesn't bother me too much. I'm just looking for a shooter, but one that is in good shape and looks nice and clean and will match my very nice M91/30 Ishevsk of 1940.
