I just did a search and see no use of the word.
I just learned it a day ago.

What's the hump at the top of the back of a revolver called?

Answer later if no one gets it.

Aaaaaargh....Jim Watson.....Aaaargh...

I feel like Rumplestiltskin.

"Prawl" is absolutely correct.

You win a 1911 original thumb pinching grip safety.

Some of the older big bore guns had a prawl that came back beyond the backstrap.

Protruding prawl prevents the gun rotating in the paw of the plinker.

Not to be confused with prawn, which is easier to chew.

what was your source for the question, looked in a few of my books and can find no reference to prawl. Good question ya came up with.
;)

Later Smith & Wesson Russian Models, and New Model No. 3s are the best examples of handguns with a distinctive prawl.

This is from Jim Supica's sales page for Old Town Station... The bottom gun has a very distinctive prawl.

"Protruding prawl prevents the gun rotating in the paw of the plinker..."

Oh Sam, you could have said that so much better...

Such as...

Protruding prawl prevents pistol from pivoting in the paw of the plinker, thus preventing piss poor performance. :)
