Looks like the FAL Files' new forums are down. Something about them exceeding their bandwidth allocation. Just when I had a question to ask. :(

Anyway, I noticed something mentioned in one of the Forums about TAPCO having G1 kits that their preselling on the cheap. What can anyone tell me about them (the kits) and the rifle in general? Are these kits metric or standard? I'm really new at this so any and all help would be welcomed.

I'm just thinking about getting a kit on the pure principle. I love driving the anti-gunners (like my ex-girlfriend) crazy!:D

Thanks for your help/input.

TAPCO is a class act and I have had good dealings with them. The G1 is a Belgian made metric FAL that was sold to Germany.

The Germans wanted to adopt it as their service rifle but the Belgians decided not to let them.

As I recall, FN would not license Deutschland to manufacture the FAL, therefore they took their toys and went home and adopted the CETME which was a German design in the first place. It became the G3. I think the German's called the FAL the G1.

I only dealt with Tapco once. I bought some high capacity Beretta mags. They had excellent service and shipped my stuff right away. They are good people to deal with.

Well, I've gone and done it....

:D Teeheeheee......! I spent a lot of time last night surfing through the FAL Files. And after reading all the posts concerning TAPCO's G1 deal, I went ahead and ordered one of the G1 parts kits. Heck, I even splurged a little and spent the extra $20 for a "hand-picked" kit. All in all, I'm out $150 which includes shipping.

Man, I'm glad that I'm not married, 'cause I think a wife would have killed me. I just bought a FR-8 about a month ago, and I have Rock River AR-15 on order. I guess I'll make the G1 my winter project gun, along with buying and sprucing up a Danish Garand from the CMP.

Let's see, I still need the upper receiver (metric), all the tools I need to build the G1 and M1, a reloading press (that'll come much later), and some ammo to feed my hungry babies. Anyone know if McDonald's is hiring in the Alexandria, VA area, 'cause I think I need another job ;).
