Aguila Hyper-Velocity .22 Ammo

A post on General said that a TFL'er had seen 3 rifles damaged in one day, apparently related to this ammo. I just bought 500 rounds of it.

Does anyone use Aguila Hyper-velocity .22 cartridges and what are they like.

Thanks.

This is the first I've heard of Super-Max causing damage. What kind of rifles and what kind of damage? I'm sure it would damage my bolt stop in my 10/22 without a bolt buffer. Thats why I don't shoot Stingers either. If they are using bolt buffers they don't last forever when shooting hyper-velocity ammo and need replaced regularly.

That must be a record I know, I was at a local sand pit today and a couple guys were trying out their 22's with the Aguila HYPER VELOCITY load. Here is the by my own eyes report, If I had a camera I'd have taken pictures.

1. A 15 year old 10/22 that had the bolt blown backwards and jammed into the action shearing off the stop. Oddly the rim of the wedged case was also split.

2. A Marlin model 60 with broken and bent springs.

3. A still functioning, but bent action rod, Remington 597.

This HYPER VELOCITY stuff may be cool, but beware you use it at your own risk. The guy with the Model 60 fired 100 rounds of it through a bolt action 880SQ without a problem. If you really want that kind of velocity I'd suggest staying with a bolt action or stepping up to a magnum. my .02 cents![end quote]

Hence, my concern about stuffing my Ruger MkII full of this stuff.

I use the hyper-velocity Stingers in my Marlin Papoose. I've not had any problems yet. This is the first I've heard about the hyper stuff causing damage. I'd hate to hurt the Papoose. I like it, and it seems to like Stingers. Any opinions?

I think the Aguila Super Maximum is hotter than the Stinger. It's advertised as the fastest .22 LR in the world.

One has to wonder why you'd bother with "the hottest .22LR in the world". If you really need more power, there are tons of other choices. :)

I've been shooting Stingers, Aquilla and QuickShock for as long as they have each been available. I use H&K rifle, S&W 40, and Walther TPH. No problems with any of them. I've shot 10s of thousands of rounds of Stingers, thousands of QuickShock and thousands of Aquilla -- no problems with any of them in the above guns. They are all VERY accurate in these guns -- among the most accurate tested in these three!!!!!!

Sorry you've had difficulties for those of you who have.

Take care,
Jody

I've used it in my ruger 10/22. It seems to work well with no problems yet. Shot about 100 rounds last time I was out. Did not notice any damage to the gun when I cleaned it. I have had mixed results with Aguila ammunition in general. From reading other posts on it and my own experience it seems to vary from lot to lot.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Aguila colibri, which is primer only, is a blast to shoot in a suburban setting, with the proper backstop (same as for a pellet gun).
