Aguila and MFS Ammunition

Has anyone tried the 180 grain .40S&W cartridge that Aguila makes?

How about the 230 grain .45ACP that "MFS in Europe" makes?

After getting burned with American Ammunition, I would like to know if I am buying clean, reliable and safe ammunition or junk.

Thanks for any information.

Skorzeny, I've tried Aguila 9mm 124 grs. It works well but it's extremely dirty. It leaves a thick coat of gunk all over the muzzle and on internal parts.

American Ammunition, is that the same as Federal American Eagle? I've found Fed Am Eagle 40 155 grs at a good price, but I won't get it if it's no good.

NO! American Ammunition is a small company that produces low cost, low quality ammo with the headstamp "A MERC". American Eagle is the generic brand of Federal, which is now owned by Blount; it's more expensive but much higher quality.

The Hungarian-made MFS brand .45 ammo that I've tried was of fine quality and a bargain at $9.00 per box of 50. It's far superior to Wolf and American Ammo in the same price range.

Matt, would you please share your experience
with Wolf .45ACP? I need a lot of cheap ammo
to practice, and Wolf looks like a bargain.
Any particular problems with this brand?

I've heard good things about Wolf rifle ammo. Cheap good plinking ammo. I've heard bad things about Wolf handgun ammo. Rim torn off by extractor, steel case wears on extractor, FTF, etc.

When it comes to my .45ACP I buy PMC, UMC, and occasionaly S&B. If you can afford to buy a large amount of handgun ammo check out htt://www.ammoman.com

TS (Tangential Subject): Hey, does anyone know where I can buy Aguila .22 Super Colibre ammo? I ordered from Aguila directly several months back but they said they were out and would contact me when they made more, but I never heard from them. Maybe somebody has a quantity on hand. Thanks.

AIMSurplus has the Hungarian MFS. Nice and hot 45 ACP. I bought several cases before I started reloading.

K-9,

Is Mag-Tech new or reloaded brass?

jtduncan:

When you say "nice and hot" about the MFS ammunition, are you suggesting that it is good quality and is loaded on the high pressure/high velocity side (for .45ACP)?

Don't know about the 180 gr, but stay away from the 165 gr in .40. I bought 2 boxes to try. The bullet is long with a rounded point, not flat like most .40s. This round refuses to feed in ALL my semi-autos. I would assume that their 180 gr. is just as bad. I also tried their 9mm and .45, and hated them both. Dirty, loud, and heavy recoil. I'd actually shoot Wolf (which I also hate) before Aquila.

I agree with others on the Magtech. Good ammo, IF you can find it at a good price. I bought a case of .40 from Midway a few months back for around $145, now it's over $200. Great ammo for $145, overpriced at $200.

Mag-Tech is new, Brazilian military ammo. I've tried it in 9mm, .40 and .45. One of the more accurate of the "value" ammos. Good ammo, if you can find it cheap. But every time I see it, the prices keep going up, up, up.

Oris,

I've heard so many bad things about Wolf handgun ammo that I've never tried it myself. The biggest problem seems to be lapses in quality control: one case will be OK, another will have over-pressure rounds that can damage a pistol.

Besides which, I reload, so steel-cased ammo isn't very attractive to me.

How about South African PMP ammo in 9mm Parabellum?

I think PMP is manufactured by Denel.

I've had good results with the Magtech Brazilian ammo too. As to the American Eagle in .40/155, it is the hottest of any ball round that I found. It's the perfect practice load to equal the blast and recoil of the CorBon 135gr load in .40.

The Wolf ammo I've seen has had steel cases. I've been told they should NOT be reloaded due to microscopic cracks in the cases which occur during resizing.

It's good stuff, IMHO. I haven't had any problems with it, which is more than I can say for PMC 9mm ball.

Thanks, Matt.

I did use 9mm Wolf in my CZ-75. No problems,
although accuracy was so-so, and I did notice some deviation in case sizes within
0.002", which I did not notice while checking Fiocchi cases. I do like some elements of Wolf ammo - it's cheap, hot, and well sealed against moisture, but would not use it for target shooting for sure.

I'll skip on Wolf .45 ACP and will buy MFS
or Fiocchi, if I can find it....Fiocchi is getting hard to find these days.
