Aging Brass On Replica Henry Rifle

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew how to age the brass on a replica Henry rifle to make it look older. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some folks have sweaty hands and any gun they hold onto feels sticky. I have one such friend who deblued a gun just by handling it. Find such a friend and have him handle it. It'll certainly give the Henry a natural patina in no time.

Will "age" naturaly

Strip all oil and other preservatives from the brass with paint thinner and the unprotected brass will oxidize naturally in a few months. With brass, it is harder to keep it looking bright and new than it is to let it darken. If you should change your mind, it is very easy to buff the brass bright again.

You want dull brass or a fake dark patina? Birchwood-Casey sells a brass blackener. Brownell's sells it. Applied like cold bluing.

Brass Black will work but you need to rub it down with acetone to remove the protective coating first. Don't get acetone on the wood finish.
