Age of a S&W model 36

I picked up a mint model 36 s/n J609xxx. I would like to know the age. It appears unfired.

Is there a webb site that list dates / serial numbers for Smith and Wesson handguns? Colt has..........

Your model 36 was made in 1976-77, according to The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson by Jim Supica & Richard Nahas.

For what it's worth to any other readers, S&W started the "J" serial number prefix in 1969 with "J1" on the Model 36.
