I am sure this as everything else, it is different from state to state and sometimes even local county ordnances. When in doubt about a particular firearms related law question, I always call the state police for verification.

No age limit with regards to los Federales. However, check you state laws. In CA you must be 21 to buy any handgun.

Another point of interest is that my state's definition of a rifle vs. pistol is different than the Fed's. It's only considered a pistol under our state law if the barrel is less than 12 inches.

I was reading some Ohio State Firearms Law and their definition is something like 'a pistol is any firearm designed to be fired with a single hand'.

Colud not find specifically, anything on BP handguns, just age limits to purchase/own/be in pocession of a handgun.
