After-market stock for Ruger #3

Do any of you know if anyone is making an after-market stock for the Ruger #3 carbine? I have a #3 in 45-70 that I love, but man is it unpleasant to shoot with full power loads.

I feel your pain, as I have the same rifle. I topped mine with a heavy 3-9 scope that I had laying around, didn't do much good. I tried paper patching .452 dia. 230 grain roundnose cast bullets, reduced recoil, but terrible accuracy, even loaded down to about 1100 fps, my 405grain cast bullets kick a lot. At the range, from a bench I put a sandbag between my shoulder and the butt. In the field though where I use it for pigs and the occassional deer in heavy brush, I don't feel nothin'. (Hornady 350 grain roundnose for deer at distance or my cast 405s for under 100 yards). I hope someone comes up with a suggestion, but I bet it won't be cheap. There ain't many of these little carbines out there. I also have a #3 in .223, the problem with that is it weighs a ton as it has the same diameter barrel as the 45-70, but that tiny little hole.

I know there is a company that makes synthetic #1 stocks. I don't know if they could be modified to fit your #3?

The only other way to go is to add a substantial recoil pad and some weight in the stock by mecury recoil reducers or lead shot.

I have a #1H that used to be a .458 Win Mag until I had it rechambered out to .460 Weatherby. My normal shooting loads are a 500 gr RNSP @ 2,600 fps and a 300 JHP @ 2,900 fps. Yest the recoil is brisk but manageable. I have a thick decelerator pad and plan on adding some more weight in the stock.
