After market bbl for Win 88

AFAIK, no. Gun Parts doesn't even list the Models 88 and 100. A competent gunsmith should be able to fit a new barrel, but it would not be cheap.

Too bad. I have one in 308 that has been my favorite deer gun since about 1972. The bore has what look like large pits, or at least irregularities, and has had since I bought it used. Oddly, it shoots MOA or nearly so, depending on me and the day. It's obvious that with a cleaning rod and patch it is a looser fit than my other 30, so I assume it's just worn. It can't keep shooting like that forever. Maybe I'll just retire it from range duty and just hunt with it. I do like to shoot it as it fits me better than any other.

Don't fix it until it is BROKEN!!!!! MOA is a pretty tall order for an 88, and if yours is anywhere close to that don't touch a thing!!!

Best I can do with my 88's is about 2 MOA regardless of caliber with handloads they like and the average about 2.5-3 MOA with various factory ammo, they all shoot about the same. Same for the others I have shot, so yours is one you want to hang on to and not change a single stinking thing!!!

Sam, about 150-300, unless I use it in hunting rifle competition, which is rare.
HS, I guess you're right, but I find it hard to be satisfied with a rifle. Seems, like a good fish story, they were made to be improved upon. Doesn't sound like I can get a new barrel for it anyhow. I suspect the stock screw into the barrel lug halfway out is at least part of the accuracy problem with these things. I glass bedded mine, but still it's a lot of wood between the action bed and the barrel lug bed. Free floated is a relative term I guess, but I relieved all wood (glass) contact except in the action and at the forearm lug.
BTW, it's favorite loads are 44.0 3031, CCI 250, and Sierra 150 FB Spit in WW cases. Other is 45 4064, CCI 250, and Sierra 165 BT Spitzer. Secretly (don't try this at home) they get slightly more accurate as the charge increases above these, but of course that's higher than book max :( (I think the long throat has something to do with liking a bit more, and I am only limited in length by the magazine)

If you are now getting MOA outa a Win 88, do not touch it, do not free float it, do not glass bed it,, do NOTHING because... you have one of the rare ones that will shoot THIS good. They are great guns, I have some along with Model 100's. They were never known for their prize winning accuracy, but they were all minute of deer. If you are trying to better an inch group with this gun, you will most likely be disappointed. It just isn't generally in them. Good luck though..
