Affordable M4 Scope?

Hey guys!

So I shot my friend's new M1A1 with a Leupold scope today. I can't remember to model, but he said it was around the 2K$ range, so i assume iths the Mark 4 series. Anywhoo.. I really admired his scope, and the rifle was something I have always been interested. I've kicked around some questions here...

However a local gun store has secured a round of High Standard brand M4s, the rifle I was looking to get. I was looking for something less than 900$.. and the batch they got, retail on them is $700 plus tax which is 8.10% in NV. It comes stripped with NO sights, but ahs a picatinny rail with a 1/9 twist... and 1 30 round mag. Not a bad price.... I was kicking around my overall budget with sights and a scope.

I think my MAX for a decent scope right now should be like $200 because I want to get decent grips and a nice set of sights.

Any idea for target/long range (150-300 yards) a nice scope around $200?
How about sights for $100 or less?

Just for SH**Z and giggles... opinions on different grips?

Im excited to expand my collection... I was looking at using a crappy but decent scope and eventually graduating to a Leupold CQT mark 4 and then to a Mark 4 long range.

I don't prefer a DOT sight though, I like the cross hair deal..

Thanks for the help guys,
-Louis

You might want to look at the Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 that Dicks Sporting Goods has on sale for $100 ($50 off) online or in store through Saturday. I picked one up locally and am pleased with what I see. Haven't selected mounts yet but every online review I've read has rated this Nikon model very good to excellent and that's over 50 reviews.

Bushnell, Burress, Millett, Lucid, etc etc.

And that's just one vendor.

I understand budget money, we all don't magically wave a credit card for everything and live in the IKEA display at the Mall. It's the mounted price on the gun that counts. You must add in the riser and rings, if needed, to actually use any scope. The total price on the gun sighted in is usually not the price you see - unless it has bases/rings included. Some do.

Then you choose what battery and life you get, small lithium watch batteries aren't all that cheap or easy to find when you discover the switch was left on. Even Aimpoint has gone to an AA battery on the M4, regardless it can run for eight years. Compare that, too.

Since my choice is for a hunting rifle, I don't need to be Aimpoints one millionth and one customer for a combat rated optic. I prefer the mount integrated, less joints or extra screws. Since it's likely foreign made, might as well be the same plant that also makes Aimpoint and Eotech parts. And using the integrated bases for the battery, rather than another lump in my sight line, is more space efficient. Armor for my clumsy lifestyle might help it last longer.

I'm checking out the Lucid HD7, it's even sold through DPMS (ie Remington/Bushmaster.) What you see is all you need, clamps right on. Sure, I could run down to Academy and use my birthday gift card for a Millett SP, and I would still need well over $125 for a riser and rings, too. It's not ready for prime time at $69.95.

It's the mounted price on the gun that counts.
