Affordable 45acp. w/decocker

Want a 45acp. d/a s/a with decocker, double or single stack ok. Really like the cz97, little over my budget but it has no decocker. Currently leaning towards the ruger kp97d. Dont like the grips on glocks plus along with sig and hk, too much dough. What other choice's do I have given the parameters listed above. Keep in mind I want a brand new gun & can order at dealer cost plus about 20 bucks. Price must be around $450.oo or under. thanks o great 45 guru's. the ammo man.

Ruger P97

Get the Ruger P97. Its not perfect (mine has cosmetic flaws), but it shoots very well--which is really the most important thing. Very accurate, 100 percent reliable, and sturdy. It will last a lifetime.

The P97 is a great buy for the money.

I just purchased a P97 and I am impressed. I think it is a bargain for what they charge for it. It is built like a tank, accurate and reliable. There is a $40 rebate on the Ruger P series right now, makes it an even better deal.

Get a used HK USP .45. I got mine for $450 and have not regretted it.

You can get some nice used 1911 style pistols for that amount as well, if you like them.

Ruger P97

I'm a 1911 (Kimber and SA) fan myself, but for less than $450 you can't beat this pistol. If you need something smaller and have an extra $50 then take a look look at the S&W Chief's Special - I've seen it on sale in the $475-499 range.

In your price range you have few choices ,theres the ruger KP-90,97,the smith @ wesson 457 and the witness 45's(no decocker).Check them out and fire them if possible, maybe rent them at a local range and see which one you like the best and go from there, best of luck:)

Thanks for the input. Smith and Wesson really chaps my ass, if it were'nt for the Commie deal they signed I would purchase one. I like the third gen auto's from smith. Ashcroft should overturn that aggreament, it is clearly unconstitutional. I'm going to find bill clinton and kick his ass. How many times have I said ass tonight? I think a 457 is around $425.00 well kiss my ass. How about that Jennifer Lopez, now thiers a large ( )

There is also the Taurus 945. It has all the things that you were looking for. I got one a couple of years ago and carried it for a bit. No major problems or issues with it.

Ruger P-97.

Hands down, the best .45 "bang for the buck" on the market.

Pretty darned good even when you don't consider cost/effectiveness: few .45s are more reliable or accurate, and darned few are more durable.

P97

The Ruger P97 or the P90 those are your best choise's IMO. You have your pick between the alloy frame or the polyomer frame, get the the one that fits your hand best.

The ruger is a very good, and very tough pistol for the $. They have been hit a couple times too many with the ugly stick, but they work and shoot well.

In my opinion, the ONLY 45 platform is the 1911. If you ever come to your senses :) and want a 1911, try the Argentine Sistema Colt -- very good pistol and a piece of history for a very good price!

I wouldn't want a S&W 457 if someone gave it to me. Why is that one might ask? I've had one before and it was the biggest POS jam-o-matic I ever owned. On top of the poor functioning, the single action trigger pull was pi$$ poor (very heavy). I think you are much better off with the P97, it works fine and the trigger pulls are quite good on that model. ;)

I've had S&W 457 for some time and have never had a minutes trouble out of it. Have shot several hundred rounds of fmj and hp's with nary a hiccup, pretty accurate to. Not bragging on S&W, just stating the facts.:)

Does it really have to be new???

How about a used Sig P220, they can be had for around $450 (or less seen one for 399) but you have to keep your eyes open for one. They are one of the most accurate out of box pistols I have ever seen.

Now if you absolutely must have new, they I guess the Ruger would be the way to go, although I would hate to support Mr. Bill "10 rounds is all you need" Ruger.

Well, I ordered the kp97d today. I think I'll be glad I did, with the rebate my out the door cost will be $328.oo Pretty sweet. This brings up a bigger point, I was willing to spend as much as $150.oo to $175.oo dollars more ,but the market really offered nothing unless I was willing to spend double. Seems like a large hole marketing wise, you'd think some manufacturer will try to fill that void.Another question, seems I heard somewhere the new mags for the p97 hold 8 rounds instead of 7 can someone confirm this. thanks again.

Sorry Walt but I have to disagee with you. The Charles Daly 1911 has to be the best .45 going now. Mine shoots like a custom-house gun and has all the bells and wistles. Never jamed, 50yard sub 2inch accurate and has the fit and finish of a gun costing 3 times as much. The Empirial grade is a particularly attractive piece. I got mine for just under $500. I know it is a different config than the origonal poster was asking about but its worth a look. I also love my Witness, but it dosnt have a decocker like you wanted. Accuracy is much better than I expected for a $350 NIB gun and it has been 100% jam free with all types of ammo. I expected "combat accuracy" but what i got was far closer to match accuracy....not quite but suprisingly close for a stock, cheap gun. The only downside is the CZ style inside the frame mounting of the slide. It can be kinda hard to rack the slide sometimes, dosnt leave much sticking out to grab onto. Especialy after you hands have gotten chewed up and sweaty jaming that 11th round in the magazine. Its pretty easy once you abandon the pinch method and start hookning the base of your hand over the rear sight to rack the slide.
